Marc Guehi completes medical but Liverpool move now in doubt

Marc Guehi has completed his medical ahead of a £35 million move to Liverpool, but there are now doubts whether Crystal Palace will sign off on the transfer.

Liverpool and Crystal Palace agreed a deal worth £35 million – including a 10 percent sell-on clause – on Monday afternoon following extensive talks.

That allowed the defender to continue his medical in London, which he is understood to have completed hours before the transfer deadline.

But the Times‘ Gary Jacob is among those to report that the deal has now stalled due to issues on Palace’s end.

talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook has claimed that this comes following the failure to sign centre-back Igor Julio from Brighton.

The Brazilian is instead now expected to join West Ham, meaning Palace must now source another replacement for Guehi before green-lighting his move.

It remains to be seen if this will end Liverpool’s hopes of signing the England international before the 7pm deadline on Monday, with Sky Sports reporting that Palace have not called him back from his medical.

However it certainly isn’t encouraging, with Guehi’s sale already a point of major contention at Selhurst Park with manager Oliver Glasner vocal in his desire to keep his No. 6.

That Palace agreed a deal shows they are willing to sell their captain – as has been maintained by chairman Steve Parish in recent weeks – but they will not want to risk Glasner walking out if Guehi is not adequately replaced.

Guehi’s medical has taken place in London to speed up the process around a long-expected move to Anfield, avoiding any late issues as far as Liverpool are concerned.

But clearly they cannot legislate for other deals fallen through for Palace, who have already enquired over a loan deal for Joe Gomez as well as registering interest in Man City‘s Manuel Akanji and Monaco’s Mohammed Salisu.

Gomez is now expected to stay at Liverpool with not enough time to complete a transfer, while Akanji is set to join Inter Milan instead.
