Deadline day signing Alexander Isak could make his Liverpool bow at Turf Moor

Liverpool’s first Premier League fixture after the international break will be dominated by Alexander Isak and a potential debut for their record signing against Burnley.

Isak completed a British record £125million, potentially rising to £130million, move to Liverpool from Newcastle on transfer Deadline Day at the beginning of the month as the long summer saga finally ended.

Reds head coach Arne Slot will hope all the attention on the Sweden international does not prove to be a distraction as his Liverpool side remain the only side in the division with an 100 per cent winning record after three games.

A stunning free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai secured victory over title rivals Arsenal last time out and the reigning Premier League champions are heavy favourites to overcome the newly-promoted side.

However, Liverpool will have to guard against complacency as Burnley ran Manchester United close almost a fortnight ago as a 97th minute Bruno Fernandes penalty denied them a point at Old Trafford.

Scott Parker will hope his international stars return from representing their respective nations unscathed as a fully fit squad with everyone performing at the best is key to taking points off the league leaders.

Experienced defender Kyle Walker should be fresh having not been named in the England squad for the World Cup double-header against Andorra and Serbia. Lyle Foster and Jaidon Anthony will hope their goals against Man United earn them another start.

Zeki Amdouni is a long-term absentee for Burnley, but Jordan Beyer and Connor Roberts could be available for selection.

Isak took part in his first Liverpool training session on Wednesday and will be in contention to make his debut at Turf Moor. Whether that comes as a starter or from the bench remains to be seen.

The striker is short of match practice after missing Newcastle’s entire pre-season and the opening three Premier League games of the campaign. He did play the final 18 minutes for Sweden against Kosovo on Monday to build up his fitness.

Elsewhere, Jeremie Frimpong could return for Liverpool after missing wins over Newcastle and Arsenal through injury, while Ibrahima Konate is fit despite limping off against the Gunners.

Liverpool are the top scorers in the division this season, and that is without being able to call upon Isak so far. The good news for Burnley is the Swede is unlikely to be firing on all cylinders given his lack of game time.

The bad news for the hosts is the likes of Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo will be keen to get amongst the goals after being kept quiet by Arsenal last time out.

If Burnley can catch the Reds in a post-international break slump then a result is possible, but it’s hard to see past a comfortable win for the reigning Premier League champions.
