Liverpool were on the receiving end of another defeat as they lost 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League. The Reds were beaten after Victor Osimhen put the home side in front from the penalty spot to hand another defeat to the visitors in Istanbul.

Arne Slot’s side have now lost their last two matches after they were defeated by Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend. The attention will now turn towards Saturday when Liverpool will next face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool have already been forced to deal with some selection dilemmas and injury concerns in the opening weeks of the season. The defeat to Galatasaray will now leave Slot with some decisions to make in the near future.

Alisson Becker

Alisson Becker picked up an injury during Liverpool’s defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

The Reds goalkeeper needed treatment from the medical staff in the second half before being substituted and replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Slot confirmed after the game that the Brazil international is expected to miss the clash with Chelsea at the weekend.

“I have to manage minutes as well,” Slot told Amazon Prime after the defeat to Galatasaray. “Hugo Ekitike going off, hopefully not in a bad way. Alisson going off. That’s why we do need to rotate a bit.

“It’s never positive if you go off like this. You can be sure that he’s (Alisson) not playing on Saturday, so let’s wait how long it is going to take. But he is definitely not going to play on Saturday.”

Expected return date: Unknown

Hugo Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike also suffered a potential injury as Liverpool were beaten by Galatasaray in the Champions League.

The France international gestured to the Liverpool bench that he needed treatment on what appeared to be a muscle injury. It remains to be seen if Ekitike will be on the sidelines for any length of time with a clash against Chelsea in the Premier League to come at the weekend.

On Ekitike, Slot said “He felt something when he had to reach for the ball, I think we all know which moment it was.

And after the game, that’s always the difficult thing with these moments, when players feel like, oh, it’s not too bad, but when you just walk around with something different, and when you make a spin, you have to shoot another one from the target.

“He said he couldn’t continue, so we had to take him off. Let’s see how he responds.”

Expected return date: Unknown

Giovanni Leoni

Giovanni Leoni is expected to be on the sidelines for several months after suffering an ACL injury during last week’s win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The defender suffered the injury in the closing minutes of what was his debut for Liverpool and will now be on the sidelines for the majority, if not all, of the season.
