Karim Benzema almost made a high-profile move to Arsenal earlier in his career, back when he was a young, highly-rated forward at Lyon. In the summer of 2008, Benzema was heavily linked with a transfer to the Gunners, with manager Arsène Wenger keen to bring him to the Premier League.

At that time, Benzema had already impressed with his performances in Ligue 1, and Wenger was eager to sign the talented striker to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options.
