Latest Liverpool injury news: Rio Ngumoha, Conor Bradley and Alexander Isak
Liverpool will be hoping to build on their win over Barnsley when they face Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
The Reds made light work of the League One side on Monday evening, recording a 4-1 victory to set up an FA Cup fourth round tie against Brighton next month.
Attentions now turn to the visit of relegation-threatened Burnley to Anfield on Saturday as Arne Slot’s side aim to end a run of three successive Premier League draws which has sucked them into a battle for top-four.
A season-ending injury to Conor Bradley does leave Liverpool short of options in defence and youngster Rio Ngumoha has emerged as a new worry after picking up a knock in the FA Cup tie.
With that said, here is all the latest Liverpool injury news and return dates ahead of facing Burnley with Mohamed Salah still away with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations but both Hugo Ekitike and Wataru Endo returning to the squad after injury.
Rio Ngumoha
Rio Ngumoha was handed a rare Liverpool start against Barnsley, though was substituted in the 73rd minute after an awkward landing upon slipping on a piece of astro turf.
Potential return date: January 17 vs Burnley (H)
Conor Bradley
Bradley was forced off in last Thursday’s goalless draw at Arsenal after landing awkwardly near the touchline when chasing the ball in injury time.
The right-back has avoided an ACL injury but will need surgery to repair damage to ligaments and bone in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season
A Liverpool statement reads: “Liverpool FC can confirm Conor Bradley has sustained a significant knee injury.
“The right-back suffered the issue in the latter stages of Thursday night’s Premier League fixture away at Arsenal.
“Bradley will undergo surgery in the coming days and then begin a period of rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre.
“No timeframe is being placed on his return to playing at this stage of the process.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Alexander Isak
Liverpool have been without Alexander Isak since he was injured while opening the scoring in the 2-1 win at Tottenham before Christmas after a challenge from Micky van de Ven that Slot criticised as “reckless”.
The Swedish international received treatment before being helped off the pitch and it later transpired that he had suffered an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula and required surgery.
An exact timeframe has not been put on Isak’s recovery, but he is expected to be sidelined for a period of months.
“It’s going to be a long injury, for a couple of months,” said Slot, who added that he expected Isak to play again this season. “It’s a big disappointment for him and, as a result, for us.”
Potential return date: March
Giovanni Leoni
Liverpool will not be able to call upon Giovanni Leoni for the rest of the season and likely the start of the next after he sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament on his debut in English football in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton in September.
The young Italian defender, a summer signing from Parma, was ruled out for approximately 12 months after surgery and still has a long way to go in terms of his rehabilitation.

“He is not in a good place, of course, because he tore his ACL and it means he will be out for around a year,” said Slot.
“Being so young, coming to a new country and playing so well in your first game … it’s very hard to take the positive side.
“There’s never a positive side but he is still so young so he has many years to go after he recovers from a terrible injury like that.”
Potential return date: September, 2026

Joe Gomez‘s fitness is the main talking point ahead of the match at Anfield, given his presence would provide cover at centre-back and full-back.
He didn’t train on Thursday, though, and Slot explained: “We have a little bit of hope that he might train on Saturday.
“So not available to start, but maybe available to help the team if needed during the game because, as you know, there are not that many defenders available at the moment.”
With Giovanni Leoni out until next season, academy defenders Amara Nallo and Wellity Lucky have made the bench in the Premier League a combined five times this season.
The latter is injured, however, so unable to come in against Man City.
Nallo got injured during Tuesday’s UEFA Youth League exit to MSK Zilina, but was named to start for the U21s on Saturday, meaning he will not be available at Anfield.
As for Lucky’s injury, the 20-year-old is set to be sidelined until April due to a hamstring injury sustained in training midway through January.
Also on Liverpool’s list of absentees is right-back Conor Bradley, who will miss the rest of the campaign.
Like Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong is currently injured but his outlook is more positive than his teammate’s.
Slot gave a brief update on the flying Dutchman’s fitness, saying he “will definitely not train this week” due to his ongoing groin problem.
With Nallo featuring at academy level, Liverpool will be without six defensive options against Man City.
