Martin Odegaard drops injury update after Arsenal return timeline emerges

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is continuing his recovery from a knee injury and the 26-year-old midfielder shared a positive update with supporters on social media

There is hope Martin Odegaard can return for the north London derby next month

Martin Odegaard has offered Arsenal fans a glimpse into his injury comeback this week, posting updates on social media as he continues his rehabilitation.

The Gunners skipper remains out of action after suffering medial collateral ligament damage to his left knee during the 2-0 victory over West Ham earlier this month. Manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Odegaard faces several weeks on the sidelines, though the 26-year-old has refused to put a definitive timescale on his comeback due to the unpredictable nature of the healing process.

With the November international break looming, the midfielder is anticipated to stay unavailable until after the final round of matches before March. A possible comeback could materialise in time for the north London derby clash with Tottenham on November 23rd.

Posting on Instagram, Odegaard uploaded a collection of images displaying his gymnasium work alongside snapshots of his personal time. His message consisted purely of a ‘chart with upward trend’ emoji – suggesting progress.

The captain was sent a three-word boost from Arsenal’s official page, stating: “Step by step.”

Odegaard seems to be approaching each day as it comes, having previously explained that much of his rehabilitation will hinge on how his left leg reacts when he resumes training.

“It’s tricky to set a return date with this type of injury because, especially it being my left leg, a lot depends on how it goes when I start getting back on the pitch,” Odegaard wrote in his Arsenal programme notes recently.

“Sometimes it can be quite sore when you start passing the ball and shooting and all these things with that leg, so it’s really hard to say a date.

“All I can say is I’m progressing really well at the moment. I think we will know more when I start getting back on the training pitches and we’ll see how that goes. If that goes really well then it can be quick.”

Meanwhile, Arteta acknowledged the Norwegian’s absence as a massive setback for his squad, stating: “We will have to find solutions.

Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a return to management

Jurgen Klopp has been linked with an eyebrow-raising move to Atletico Madrid. The iconic Liverpool manager is currently the global head of soccer at the Red Bull franchise.

There were recent reports of dissatisfaction with his work within the company, with departing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner reportedly being earmarked as a potential replacement. While these rumours were rubbished by Red Bull, who stated they were satisfied with Klopp’s work, reports indicating a possible exit have reared their head again.

This time, Spanish outlets have claimed Klopp is being considered as the heir to Diego Simeone’s throne at Atletico. This would be an interesting turn of events, considering Simeone was sent off at Anfield in September and had to be dragged away from Liverpool supporters next to his dugout, after the Reds’ won 3-2 in the Champions League.

In the summer, Simeone will enter the final year of his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano. However, Spanish television show El Chiringuito has claimed Klopp is in advanced negotiations about succeeding the Argentine.

They claim Klopp is speaking with Mark Rowan, who is the CEO of Atletico majority shareholders, Apollo. Considering how firmly Red Bull rejected the recent rumours around Klopp, they may be equally surprised by these reports from Spain.

When Klopp announced he was leaving Anfield in 2024, he insisted he would never take charge of another English football team. However, he did not say anything about the prospect of managing another club in Europe.

When Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso was sacked by Real Madrid, the German was quickly linked with a move to the Bernabeu. The Premier League winner was also identified as a potential contender for the Germany national team job, if current boss Julian Nagelsmann leaves after the World Cup.
