Mikel Arteta’s striking woes could soon be alleviated as RB Leipzig may struggle to keep ahold of key forward Benjamin Sesko.
Arsenal were left empty handed in the January transfer window as their pursuit for a prominent striker failed yet again. Season-ending injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have left Arteta having to pick Mikel Merino as his designated forward.
A striker who has been on the Gunners’ list for a while is Slovenian forward Sesko. The 21-year-old is RB Leipzig’s main-man up front. He has scored 17 goals this season in all competitions and bagged five assists.

Despite Sesko continuously proving his worth, his team is experiencing difficulties this season. Leipzig had a Champions League to forget as they crashed out of the league phase. The German team are now unusually struggling to qualify for the competition again and are currently sat in sixth place in the Bundesliga table, three points behind fourth-placed Mainz – who they lost 2-1 at home to on Saturday.
Failure to make the Champions League next year would impose some harsh financial fears on the club, according to The Sunday Mirror. As a team that is so used to being in the top ranks of European football, Leipzig would likely need some serious reshaping if they don’t qualify, the report claims.

This could mean selling star players like Sesko for some extra transfer money, something that would play perfectly into the hands of Arsenal. The Gunners would also be able to meet the Slovenian’s reported £55m price tag.
It won’t be easy for Arteta to secure the signature of Sesko, however, as London rivals Chelsea also have the 21-year-old high on their wish list. However, knowing Arsenal’s striker struggles, the north London club isn’t bound to give up easy.
