Coady’s loan to Charlton confirmed

 

Charlton have confirmed Conor Coady has joined the club on loan from Wrexham for the rest of the season.

 

Addicks boss Nathan Jones told the club’s official website: “We’re delighted to add Conor. He is a player of immense experience and someone who has played at the highest level and played for his country.

 

“His leadership and his qualities are something we feel we needed at this time. At this point, we really felt we could utilise his leadership going into the last 18 games.”

 

 

Gills seal deal for Hale

 

Gillingham have announced the signing of striker Ronan Hale from Ross County.

 

The 27-year-old Northern Ireland international joins the League Two side for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Liverpool are not expected to enter the market for a new defender – despite a latest injury hitting right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

 

The club do not generally make reactive moves in the transfer market, preferring to stick to their long-term plans – and that remains unchanged.

 

Liverpool always remain alert to their targets becoming available but they will not sign any player based on an injury as they still believe they have options to cover.

 

Speculation of a dip into the market arose earlier this month when regular right-back Conor Bradley was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

 

Frimpong, Joe Gomez, Waturo Endo and Curtis Jones are all considered players who can cover the position in his absence, but Frimpong was forced off in the win over Qarabag in the final Champions League group game on Wednesday night.

 

With Gomez also out with a knock, Endo looked adept as he filled in the position for the remainder of the game. But Gomez is expected back soon, along with centre-back Ibrahima Konate, after compassionate leave.

 

The club will assess Frimpong over the next few days as head coach Arne Slot appeared to rule him out of the Newcastle game this weekend, after he was forced off clutching his hamstring.

 

And on the prospect of entering the market for another player, Slot said: “We as a club always make smart decisions. We not only look at the short-term but the long-term. That’s why we sign young players, who can develop.

 

“It always depends on if there are players that are available that we think can help us. If they are, can we afford them? And is this to be helpful for the longer-term future, because our players come back from injury as well.

 

“We have to do smart things for the near future and the longer future. Let’s see how Jeremie is. Maybe he is not able to play Saturday, but maybe he is able to play one or two days later.

 

“But we now go into a schedule with one game per week. That would usually mean less injuries, but you’re never sure

 

Aberdeen confirm Yengi exit

 

Aberdeen striker Kusini Yengi has joined J League side Cerezo Osaka on loan for the rest of the season.

 

The 27-year-old arrived in the summer on a free transfer, having spent two years with Portsmouth, and made 10 appearances for the Dons, scoring one goal.

Bobb set for Fulham medical ahead of Man City exit

Oscar Bobb is expected to have a medical with Fulham today ahead of completing his permanent move from Manchester City.

 

Sky Sports News exclusively revealed on Wednesday that a £27m deal had been agreed between the clubs.

 

The agreement contains a 20 per cent sell-on clause and City also have matching rights should Fulham eventually sell Bobb on to another club.

 

Fulham had made signing another winger to replace Adama Traore, who has joined West Ham, a priority this month.

 

Fulham also want to add a young striker and a midfielder. They have been in talks with PSV Eindhoven for striker Ricardo Pepi and Udinese for midfielder Arthur Attra.

Arne Slot says Liverpool will weigh up their transfer market options after Jeremie Frimpong added to injury problems at right-back.

 

Frimpong limped out early from the 6-0 Champions League win over Qarabag on Wednesday night.

 

Conor Bradley is already out for the season. Wataru Endo filled in at right-back, with fellow midfielder Ryan Gravenberch already covering at centre-back.

 

Asked about whether Liverpool would look to sign a solution, Slot said: “It always depends on, are there players available we think can help us, and if there are, can we afford them?

 

“And also, does it be helpful for the longer-term future as well because our players come back from injury.

 

“We have to do smart things for the near future but also the longer future.

Crystal Palace are advancing with talks to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves.

 

There has been no formal bid yet – but one is expected from the south London club.

 

Sky Sports News understands Palace are looking to sign Strand Larsen regardless of what happens with Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future.

 

Palace will only sell Mateta if his £40m valuation is met and they are happy to have both players in their squad.

Liam Rosenior has wished Raheem Sterling well for the rest of his career but suggested he had nothing to do with the winger’s Chelsea exit.

 

Sterling’s contract was ended 18 months early on Wednesday. He had been training away from the first team since the start of the season.

 

“He’s a magnificent guy,” said Rosenior. “He’s a magnificent player.

 

“There are a lot of positive things going on in the background that I really have nothing to do with.

 

“So I wish Raheem and his family all the very best in his future and I hope he has a really good rest of his career.”

 

 

‘Palace and Wrexham target undergoes scan on ankle injury’

 

Crystal Palace and Wrexham transfer target Sidiki Cherif is undergoing an MRI scan on his injured ankle, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

 

The Angers forward was forced off in the second half of Sunday’s stalemate with Paris FC in Ligue 1 with Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson in the stands on a scouting mission.

 

The 19-year-old has reportedly missed training on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the injury and his ankle is now being assessed.

 

Both Palace and Wrexham remain in talks with Angers for the teenager. The transfer window closes next Monday at 7pm.

 

 

Could Slot turn to transfer market after Frimpong injury?

 

Arne Slot has refused to rule out entering the January market for a short-term deal ‘if it can help’ Liverpool after Jeremie Frimpong limped off with an apparent hamstring injury during the 6-0 win over Qarabag.

 

Frimpong limped off after just four minutes after pulling up off the ball, having already been on the sidelines twice this season with previous hamstring injuries.

 

With the only other senior right-back, Conor Bradley, also out for the remainder of the campaign, Slot remained coy when asked if it could lead to the Reds trying to find a short-term replacement.

Keane responds to Spurs links

 

Former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane has responded to speculation suggesting he could return to the club as head coach.

 

Keane, who currently manages Hungarian side Ferencvaros, is the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Thomas Frank, who is under severe pressure amid a difficult start to life in north London.

 

Asked whether he was aware of the reports linking him with a return to the club where he made over 300 appearances, Keane said: “I think it’s impossible to not be aware of anything these days, to be honest with you, especially, when you have two kids who are Tottenham fans.

 

“Thomas Frank is a very, very good manager. He just started there. As I said, lot of stuff gets written, even when I was a player, going somewhere, going different places.

 

“But I’ll be honest with you, it goes over my head. I concentrate on what I’m doing. I think it’s nice that your name is there. Who puts it there? I have no clue, but it shows you that I’m doing OK to be even put there.

 

“I’m obviously aware of it, but I am happy here.”
