Hello and welcome back to the dedicated Liverpool transfer blog on Friday, March 28.

 

The Reds return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host Everton in the Merseyside derby. Arne Slot’s side are in a brilliant position to win the title but will be looking for a level of revenge against the Blues after a controversial draw at Goodison Park.

 

While the focus for Slot will be on the upcoming matches in the Premier League, he will undoubtedly have a firm eye on the futures of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. Alexander-Arnold looks set to leave the Reds for Real Madrid to pursue a new chapter of his career and the hunt for a replacement is thought to have begun.

 

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in a deal which could be worth as much as £30m. As for Salah and Van Dijk, it appears they are more likely to stay at the club.

 

The Egyptian winger has been vocal about his desire to stay but that negotiations have stalled in the past with the Reds. Meanwhile, Van Dijk has kept tight-lipped about the situation.

Kerkez opens up on Liverpool fan comments

 

When asked by The Athletic whether he sees the Liverpool supporters urging him to sign as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson, Milos Kerkez insisted he is aware of it.

 

It’s not like I don’t see it (the comments). When people say they don’t see stuff if someone says something about you, I think it’s a lie. It’s only if it hits you or not. If someone says something bad, I do my job, and if someone says something good, I just do my job. That’s it.

 

 

How long should Salah’s contract be extended for?

 

No Liverpool supporter wants to see Salah leave at the end of this season, particularly when he has shown his quality regularly this campaign.

 

The issue for the Reds is that he is 32 and it is unknown when his powers could begin to fade.

 

Personally, a two-year contract extension or a one-year with the option of a further year could be the way forward and would allow the Reds to assess options to replace him in the future.

 

 

Salah set to benefit from Alexander-Arnold exit

 

When one door closes, another one appears to open for Liverpool and while the departure of Alexander-Arnold will be frustrating for the Reds, it is understood it could benefit Salah.

 

Reports in Egypt insist that the freeing up of Alexander-Arnold’s wage will allow Liverpool to agree to Salah’s contract demands and keep him at Anfield beyond the end of this season.

 

They add that the talks are at a more advanced stage than ever before.

Liverpool begin work on Frimpong deal

 

With Alexander-Arnold looking to be close to an exit from Anfield, it appears work is beginning on replacing the full-back.

 

Reports have suggested that preliminary talks have begun with Bayer Leverkusen over the signing of Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

 

It has previously been suggested that a fee of £30m will be needed to lure the Dutchman away from Xabi Alonso’s squad.

Carragher disagrees with Shearer on Alexander-Arnold

 

Jamie Carragher has been a huge advocate for Alexander-Arnold staying at Liverpool and he feels that the full-back will taint his legacy at Anfield by the manner in which he is set to leave the club.

 

He told Sky Sports News:

 

I think it will taint his legacy in some people’s eyes, of course it will. When you think of players that played their whole careers at the club and turned down opportunities to go to other clubs, that leaves you certainly in the supporters’ minds that you’re one of them.

Shearer defends Alexander-Arnold amid exit reports

 

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has defended Alexander-Arnold’s impending decision to try a new challenge away from Anfield in the summer

 

It’s not really a surprise because there’s been so much talk around Trent and Real Madrid but I just look at some of the comments, and a lot of the time I don’t because it irritates me, but when I looked at some of the comments on Tuesday when the news broke, I know it’s his club but he’s been brilliant for Liverpool, played a huge part in everything they’ve done in the last few years and he’s won every single trophy with them.

Liverpool still could get Alexander-Arnold fee

 

Liverpool still could get some money from Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold – if his transfer is brought forward so he can play in the Club World Cup.

 

Real Madrid’s first game of the tournament takes place on June 18, but Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Liveprool does not end until June 30.

 

The Daily Mail report that Real Madrid are keen for hims to play in the tournament, but for him to do so, the club will have to pay Liverpool to get him out of his contract early.

Liverpool watching player with £100m asking price

 

Southampton winger Tyler Dibling is one of the player’s on Liverpool’s watch list ahead of the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

 

The report says that Liverpool were one of a number of clubs who had scouts present at England’s U19 game vs Turkey to keep an eye on Dibling.

 

Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle are other clubs said to be interested.

 

A separate report on Wednesday claimed that Southampton have placed a £100 million price on the 19-year-old.

Frimpong has revealed Liverpool decision

 

Liverpool linked Jeremie Frimpong has previously revealed that he had decided to sign for Livepool, with only Geogoraphy stopping the move going through.

 

The player eventually joined Manchester City at the age of nine, before playing for Celtic and current club Bayer Leverkusen.

 

Speaking to Rising Ballers back in January, the full-back revealed:

 

“I was playing striker and scored a hat-trick in a final, I won player of the tournament. There were scouts there like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City and a lot more.

 

“But I chose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn’t a thing, my family wasn’t driving like that and it was far.

 

“And obviously, Man City was local so I tried Man City next and it made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus, so yeah.”

Milos Kerkez update

 

Nothing is ‘close’ in regards to a potential move for Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerekez, according to Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the player.

 

The left-back has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the summer, a transfer that will see him join up with Hugarian teammate Dominik Szoboszlai.

 

Giving the latest update on GiveMeSport, Romano said:

 

“I think it’s a good possibility. It’s not something guaranteed, it’s not something close or advanced at this stage, it’s still early so you know, it’s going to take some weeks or months before we understand where he’s heading but for sure, Liverpool are interested in Milos Kerkez.”

Van Dijk and Salah tipped to stay at Liverpool

 

Both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are odds on to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer transfer window, according to bookmakers Bet365.

 

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season, and potentially available as free agents. However, Liverpool will be hoping that they both put pen-to-paper on new deals.

 

Salah is 4/6 to stay at the cluu beyond the transfer window, with van Dijk 4/9.

Jayden Danns injury admission

 

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has admitted that he dpesn’t know if Liverpool loanee Jayden Danns will be able to make his debut for the club before the end of the season.

 

The striker joined the Black Cats on loan on deadline day in January, but is yet to even train with the team due to an injury that was detected during his medical.

 

When asked if Sunderland will have to admit defeat, Le Bris said:

 

“We are not at this point right now but the season is running so it will be difficult. We don’t know exactly.”

Liverpool break Arne Slot routine

 

Liverpool have given their squad an extended break ahead of the Premier League title run-in. The Reds players would usually have reported back at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday after representing their countries during the recent international break.

 

However, with Arne Slot’s side not in action this weekend having been eliminated early from the FA Cup, the decision has been taken to afford the squad extra time off before beginning preparations for their next game at home to Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday.

 

Liverpool have a 12-point lead at the top of the table from second-placed Arsenal, who entertain Fulham on Tuesday. The Reds require another 16 points to be mathematically certain of clinching a record-breaking 20th championship.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold to go to Real Madrid is getting closer. It is claimed that the Spanish side have already started exchanging documents for the signing, and that the Reds will be informed when the deal is done.

 

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said:

 

“Everything is almost agreed, it is just abouit the final details of the contract and then Trent Alexander-Arnold will be a new Real Madrid player on a five-year deal.

 

“The agreement is really close, they already started exchanging all the documents in terms of official proposals, so we wait really for the final steps and then Liverpool will be informed by Real Madrid at the right moment as soon as they get everything signed and completed.

 

“My expectation is absolutely for Trent to be a new Real Madrid player in the summer.”

Liverpool favourites to sign Alexander Isak

 

Liverpool are the favourites to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak if he leaves the club this summer, according to bookmakers Bet365.

 

The striker is 1/2 to stay at Newcastle, but should he leave, then he is 11./4 to sign for Newcastle, compared to 10/1 odds to sign for Arsenal

Jeremie Frimpong ‘talks’

 

Liverpool have held initial talks over a potential summer for for Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to PA News agency.

 

Talks are said to be at an early stage, but the expected departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid could accelerate Liverpool’s interest in the player.

 

Frimpong started his career at Manchester City and has also played for Celtic before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. He has been a standout player for the Bundesliga side.

 

Man City. Man United and Chelsea have also been linked with an interest.

Why there are no Premier League games this weekend

 

After the international break most Premier League clubs have a bit longer to wait until they are back in action, with no league action scheduled for this weekend.

 

The lack of league action is due to the FA Cup quarter-final stage taking place. Man Citym Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Aston Villa and Bournemouth are the Premier League teams who remain in the competition.

 

However, due to an agreement with the FA, there will be no Premier League matches played on the weekend of the quarter-finals.

 

Liverpool are instead back in action on Wednesday night (8pm) in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield.

 

Huge Arsenal boost

 

Arsenal have been handed a major boost ahead of the end of season run-in, with star man Bukayo Saka back in training.

 

The winger has been out of action since December due to a hamstrnig injury. But it seems that his time on the sidelines is coming to an end.

 

Saka has posted a picture of himself back in training on Instagram along with a caption reading: “Hello again”.

 

Arsenal are currently 12 points behind Liverpool in the table with nine games remaining.

Liverpool Jarell Quansah stance

 

The Reds are reportedly planning on defender Jarell Quansah staying with the club next season, amid speculation ove his future.

 

The Athletic claim that Liverpool are ‘not considering’ selling the academy graduate this summer despite interest from Newcastle United.

 

The 22-year-old signed a long=term contract with the Reds in October which keeps him at the club until 2029.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ties to a Real Madrid transfer could inspire others, as Caughtoffside claim that Inter Milan have increased interest in Virgil van Dijk.

 

The captain is of course also out of contract in three months and would be available for free. As a result, European rivals have growing confidence and they say Inter, pushed by club president Beppe Marotta, are keen on Liverpool’s No.4.

 

Still, this rumour is at a very early stage with no talks stated to have taken place.

Luis Diaz ‘uncertainty’

 

It is Caughtoffside’s belief that there is ‘uncertainty’ around Luis Diaz’s future.

 

Liverpool, looking at what has transpired with contracts this season, will surely look to avoid the same issues repeating down the line. To that end, they have two years to make a decision over what to do woth the Colombian.

 

As his current deal expires in 2027, by which time he will be 30, they explain how a renewal of terms or a sale is undecided upon at this stage.

 

Bizarrely Arsenal have now been named amongst suitors keeping tabs in this latest report, joining Barcelona, Juventus, Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal.

More Jamie Carragher on Trent Alexander-Arnold

 

Since his first thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation released this morning, Reds legend Jamie Carragher has gone on to speak to Sky Sports about the matter.

 

“I’m not as frustrated with it being a free transfer, I get it I’d love Liverpool to get the £80m probably what he’s worth because then they can go and reinvest that in another right back or other areas of the team,” he adds.

 

“Then I look at it in a different way, he didn’t cost anything so if Liverpool sold Virgil van Dijk for £75m this summer that would be the same as Trent leaving for free. You’re breaking even so I’m not as frustrated about that as other people, and that is fine.”

 

“From a Liverpool point of view I think we’re in a great position to kick on and be really successful over the next three or four years, which I’m sure would have been the length of contract he would have signed staying at Liverpool.

 

“Players come and go, Trent will be replaced. You look at the history of not only Liverpool but of all the great clubs in this country, great players come and go, the success normally continues.”

 

And on the reaction Alexander-Arnold may get to leaving, he concluded: “From a football point of view he’ll be one of Liverpool’s great players of the modern era, what they achieved with Klopp and Slot this season. That won’t be forgotten.

 

“It will taint his legacy in some people’s eyes, of course it will, when you think of players that played their whole career at the club and turned down others. The heat will come on and maybe for the next year, but I’m really appreciative of what Trent’s done.

 

“If he goes on yes, I’ll be disappointed, but I hope it doesn’t get nasty where people are sort of wanting him to fail at Real Madrid.”

Alan Shearer on Trent Alexander-Arnold

 

Premier League great Alan Shearer also gave his thoughts to Betfair on Trent Alexander-Arnold, particularly focusing on any negative reaction his current fans may have to the move.

“He’s been a main player in doing that and has played just under 400 games, been hugely successful and given everything to that football club.

 

“Trent should be allowed to make the decision to say yeah, he wants to go and try something new, go into a different country for one of, if not the biggest club in the world in Real Madrid and he should be given a great send-off from the Liverpool fans if it happens.

 

“There hasn’t been a single occasion where you can question his attitude, he’s always given his all and he’s tried to do it in the correct way. He hasn’t got involved in all the talk.

 

“Liverpool turned a huge big down for him in January so that meant they wanted him to stay and didn’t want any finance. They could’ve taken a big fee for him and didn’t so I just think, if he is going to leave, he should leave with everyone applauding him for what he’s done for that brilliant football club.”

 

It is also his belief that Alexander-Arnold will succeed in the Spanish capital if he does indeed move, meanwhile saying the Reds have the means to recover from the setback with the talent at their disposal.

Premier League summer transfer window dates

 

The Premier League have agreed at today’s meeting between all member clubs the dates of the summer transfer window.

 

This required clarificiation because of the new revamped FIFA Club World Cup taking place from June 14, which is before the originally planned dates.

 

FIFA allowed regional bodies to therefore open their business periods earlier, so the Premier League have now confirmed a 10-day window will open between June 1 and June 10. It will close again briefly until June 16 then it stays open all the way through to September 1.

 

 

Interest goes both ways with Eintracht Frankfurt

 

Another German club have been tied to the Reds ahead of the summer window, this time with each rumoured to be interested in the other’s players.

 

First, BILD in Germany began to report that they see Wataru Endo as a strong target. The veteran may be short of minutes at Anfield but Arne Slot is publicly very pleased with the Japan captain, who has the ability to come on and help see out important results.

 

A move would mark his return to the country from which he joined Liverpool in 2023, that being from VfB Stuttgart. As an advantage, it is added that they may only be able to make a play if they secure Champions League football next season.

 

On the other hand Slot and Co. are claimed suitors in striker Hugo Ekitike, as per The Daily Mail. The Frenchman has scored 19 goals this season in all competitions, so is said to be building interest from the Premier League.

More on Jarell Quansah interest

 

Fabrizio Romano is the latest to understand Newcastle’s interest in Jarell Quansah, following The Times’ earlier report.

 

Adding to that report, he provides some interesting context. The Reds’ defender is on their shortlist, he says, with no contacts made as of yet. But also on their radar is Bournemouth centre back Dean Huijsen, who has also been linked with Liverpool and many other clubs this summer.

 

Even though the Spaniard is said to have a £50m release clause, the Magpies ‘feel it will be difficult’ to win that race, so maybe that is why they have multiple targets looking at the summer ahead.

Alan Shearer – ‘Harry Kane would be a great option’

 

Alan Shearer may not be best pleased seeing Alexander Isak linked with leaving his beloved Newcastle for Liverpool this summer, so the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer believes he has the perfect solution!

 

“Harry Kane is a machine and he’ll always score goals. Despite his age, if you provide him with chances or balls into the box, he’ll find a way to put the ball in the back of the net and that’s the sign of a great goalscorer.

 

“Harry has always done it for England. I know there’s been one or two debates about last summer but if he’s got players who are prepared to run beyond him then that opens up space for him and if you get to the byline like Declan Rice did and whip a ball across like that, he’ll score goals. He’s a great goalscorer and has been for so many years now.

 

“Liverpool will be looking for a centre-forward in the summer, I don’t doubt that and Harry Kane would be a great option for them because of the size of the club and he’ll score goals,” is his verdict to the Reds’ central forward questions, speaking to Betfair.

 

He continued: “Whether Harry decides to stay in Germany or he decides to come back to the Premier League, he’ll have options.

 

“I’ve always said that if he comes back to the Premier League then he’ll have a really, really good chance of breaking my record. I’m a huge admirer of him and you can’t be anything but because of who and what he is.

 

“My Premier League record won’t last forever. I don’t know how long I’ve been at the top of the charts but it’s been a great privilege to be there when you look at the number of top quality players there.

 

“The record will go one day and when it does go, and if it’s to Harry, he knows I’d be the first to congratulate him and shake his hand because if anyone deserves it, he does.

 

“At the moment, I’m still enjoying it so long may it continue!”

 

Critical summer ahead for Luca Stephenson

 

Luca Stephenson is just one Reds youngster enjoying his time out on loan during the 2024/25 campaign. After featuring in four pre-season friendlies under Arne Slot, the 21-year-old headed out to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership and has made 31 appearances so far, 28 of those being starts.

 

This has left the midfielder weighing up his options, now telling The Courier of the need for clear the air talks upon his return to Merseyside.

 

“I’ve been in a little bit of conversation. I don’t 100% know yet, I’ll have one year left on my deal at Liverpool next year so there’s a conversation to be had there of whether there’ll be a new contract on the table down there or not,” he explained.

 

“Then it’s probably just about early summer time – as soon as our season finishes – having a look at what’s best for me, whether it’s back here, whether it’s backing out of Liverpool to play somewhere else.

 

“I don’t know as yet, but the conversations are certainly starting.”
