Liverpool Plans for Signing Alexander Isak After Salah Contract Renewal Revealed

Liverpool

Mohamed Salah’s contract extension won’t scupper Liverpool’s plans to sign Alexander Isak, and the Reds will look to use the Egyptian star’s decision to stay as a charm offensive, as per TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey.

Isak has been on the Merseysiders’ radar amid talk of Salah leaving in the summer, but the club’s third all-time top scorer isn’t going anywhere. A new two-year deal for the 32-year-old was confirmed on Friday, putting the need for a new potent goalscorer potentially on the back burner.

Liverpool have cash to splash from a lack of spending over the past two windows which means a blockbuster arrival is a possibility for Arne Slot’s likely Premier League champions. Isak fits the bill as he’s been in electric form for Newcastle, leading the line at St James’ Park with aplomb.

The higher-ups at Anfield believe Salah’s new deal could inspire Isak to make the switch this summer because it shows the club’s intentions to continue challenging for major honours. Virgil van Dijk is also close to having a new two-year contract confirmed, again showing the desire to stay among the elite.

When asked about his future in February, Isak remained focused on helping Newcastle win the Carabao Cup, explaining that he’d likely speak to the club about a new contract at the end of the season. He scored in his side’s 2-1 win over Slot’s Liverpool in the cup final to only further fuel speculation over a move to Merseyside.

The Magpies are eager to keep the 25-year-old whose contract expires in June 2028 and will reportedly look to break their wage structure to ensure he stays put. They are expected to have to offer him terms way above current top earner Bruno Guimaraes who sits on £150,000 per week.
