Liverpool and Arsenal last met at Anfield in December, with the Gunners top of the table and the Reds second, but it was a game that will be remembered for Tsimikas’ injury

Bukayo Saka offered an apology to Kostas Tsimikas

The las time Liverpool welcomed Arsenal to Anfield, Konstantinos Tsimikas suffered a collarbone injury and later received an apology from Bukayo Saka post-match. In the previous encounter in December 2023, with both Premier League titans clashing at Anfield, Arsenal led the league while Liverpool followed closely in second.

The match had an explosive start as Mikel Arteta’s Gunners seized the initiative with Gabriel Magalhaes finding the net in under four minutes, but Mohamed Salah restored parity before the break.

Yet, the Reds faced misfortune when Tsimikas exited prematurely due to a shoulder injury sustained from an off-pitch collision involving Jurgen Klopp, attributed to a challenge by England’s Saka.

Subsequently substituted by Joe Gomez, the Greek defender was promptly dispatched to the hospital, where a broken collarbone was diagnosed. Post-game, upon discovering Tsimikas’ hospitalisation, Saka conveyed his regret during an interview with Sky Sports.

He said: “I heard he has gone to hospital so obviously I want to apologise to him, I didn’t mean it of course. For me it was a 50/50 and I have gone shoulder to shoulder with him.
