Leeds Set to Move for Caoimhin Kelleher

Leeds United have got a major boost in their search for a new goalkeeper. And now, Liverpool have let Caoimhin Kelleher have a summer move this June.

The Ireland goalkeeper has been on the radar for Leeds for some time. But, the Whites’ ability to make any transfer was depended on their return to the Premier League. With promotion now secured, the club is moving gears to strengthen key positions such as signing a new goalkeeper in this June.

The stoppers’ international boss, Heimir Hallgrimsson, has openly backed the move. He stressed the need for regular first-team action to help the 26-year-old grow. The keeper has played second fiddle to Alisson at Anfield for a long time. He has shown his class in cup games but wants week-in, week-out action in the top flight.

Kelleher Could Solve Leeds’ Goalkeeping Concerns

Illan Meslier’s not so good Championship campaign has left Daniel Farke’s side searching for a more dependable option between the sticks. Despite his talent, Meslier’s inconsistency and costly errors saw him replaced by Karl Darlow during the final stretch.

The Whites now see Kelleher as a long-term solution. He is a keeper with big-match experience, calm under pressure, and hungry for a starting role. The Reds are reportedly open to selling, especially as the Irishman is keen to become a No.1.

A move to Elland Road will very likely help Leeds solidify their backline. Also, it will give Kelleher the platform he needs to cement his status as Ireland’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Talks are likely to pick up pace soon. Other changes also likely such as Junior Firpo’s possible exit. As things stand, Leeds will be busy during the summer window.
