On Friday, June 6, it has been confirmed that Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes signed a new contract with Arsenal, which will keep him at the club until 2029 after delivering consistent results in the last five years. While the 27-year-old was already signed to a contract until 2027, the new deal showcases the immense value he brings to the heart of Arsenal defence under manager Mikel Arteta, with a focus on winning the Premier League after a long wait.

After joining Arsenal in 2020 in a move worth £27 million from Lille, Gabriel Magalhaes has made 210 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists despite being the centre-back. Over the past three seasons, Gabriel Magalhaes has developed a great partnership with William Saliba in the heart of Arsenal defence, playing a key role in three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League for the club.

In his statement after signing a new contract, Gabriel Magalhaes spoke out about being proud of being a player of Arsenal and wanting to achieve greater things with the club in the near future. He was quoted as saying, “I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I’m so happy and I’ve learned a lot. “I’m so proud of myself, it’s an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.”

Notably, the absence of Gabriel Magalhaes in the last couple of months of the 2024-25 season because of a hamstring injury was quite costly for Arsenal. It led to the North London club not only finding themselves out of the Premier League title race against Liverpool, but also losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
