BREAKING NEWS: In as much as we all like Martin Ødegaard but I think it’s the right time now to put sentiment aside and do the right thing, going forward now I think He’s the perfect candidate for Arsenal captaincy role”, Rio Ferdinand named the ONE Arsenal player that truly deserves the captain armband now ahead of Martin Ødegaard if only Arsenal wants to win titles this season
In a recent statement that’s stirred discussions among football enthusiasts, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has made a compelling case for Declan Rice to don the captain’s armband for Arsenal. This declaration not only highlights Rice’s growing influence on the pitch but also underscores the importance of strong leadership within the team.
Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal in a high-profile transfer from West Ham United, has quickly established himself as a pivotal figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Ferdinand, echoing the sentiments of many fans and analysts, believes that Rice’s maturity, work ethic, and tactical intelligence make him an ideal candidate for the captaincy.
Ferdinand points to Rice’s performances both in the Premier League and on the international stage with England. The midfielder has showcased remarkable composure under pressure, demonstrating his ability to guide younger players while delivering consistent performances in high-pressure matches. Ferdinand believes that these qualities are crucial for a captain, who must inspire confidence and cohesion among teammates. “Declan embodies everything you want from a leader,” Ferdinand remarked. “His commitment, his ability to read the game, and his natural presence on the field make him a standout choice.”
Additionally, Ferdinand emphasized the role of captains in setting a tone for the club. With Arsenal striving to reclaim their status among the elite in English football, having a captain like Rice could foster a winning mentality and instill a sense of unity. The former defender noted that Rice’s experience, despite his relatively young age, allows him to lead by example, motivating teammates to elevate their performances.
Rice’s presence in midfield has already been transformative for Arsenal, bringing both defensive solidity and attacking flair to the team’s play. Ferdinand suggests that appointing him as captain could further galvanize the team’s efforts in their pursuit of silverware. “You need someone who is fully invested in the club’s vision,” he added. “Declan shows that passion week in and week out.”
While the decision lies with Arteta and the coaching staff, Ferdinand’s endorsement of Rice as captain could resonate with a broader audience, potentially influencing their choice. As Arsenal looks to build on their recent successes, having a leader like Declan Rice at the helm could very well be the catalyst needed for a prosperous future.
In conclusion, Rio Ferdinand’s advocacy for Declan Rice as Arsenal’s captain reflects a growing consensus around Rice’s leadership qualities. As he continues to mature and develop his game, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see if Arteta takes this advice to heart, potentially marking a new chapter for Arsenal Football Club.

Virgil van Dijk vented his anger towards Federico Chiesa following Wolves’ decisive goal at Molineux. Rob Edwards’ outfit pulled off a surprise 2-1 triumph in the Premier League as the Reds squandered an opportunity to climb into fourth position.
Mohamed Salah netted an 83rd-minute leveller in a chaotic conclusion after Rodrigo Gomes had opened the scoring in the Midlands. However, Andre sparked wild celebrations in the stands with a 94th-minute winner.
Liverpool skipper Van Dijk was left furious following the late setback and yelled in Chiesa’s direction, evidently unimpressed with the Italian’s contribution. Alisson had launched a pass towards the winger, but after the duo failed to connect, Chiesa did not track back in an attempt to retrieve the ball.
Andre’s strike then deflected beyond the Brazilian and into the net. A series of issues emerged in the post-match analysis.
Van Dijk was more measured in his post-match interview, though still frustrated by the nature of the defeat.

“Conceding goals is always frustrating,” he told TNT Sport when asked if there were any frustrations about the manner of the two Wolves goals. “Obviously we’ve come on the back of a couple of clean sheets and I think defensively we have been very solid.
“But yeah, listen, it is what it is and we have to move quickly on because we come back here in a couple of days and we want to do well in the FA Cup as well and we have to show a reaction.”
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard reckons his former side were sluggish in responding to an error from Alisson. “The Liverpool players from the goalkeeper’s mistake – it’s not the greatest clearance from Alisson – but I just thought they were slow to react in midfield as well,” he commented on TNT Sports.
“You know, Wolves are jumping on the first ball, picking up the second ball. It’s a poor goal from a Liverpool point of view to concede, and it’s another late one. It’s happened too many times that they’re conceding these late goals.
“I just think the speed of the reaction from the poor clearance – I’m sure Alisson will want to own up to it – but the reaction’s just too slow.”
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock, though, laid the blame at a different door. He identified the pass to Alisson as the issue.
“It was a mistake from Curtis Jones – he plays a ball into Alisson and Alisson’s never going to get any purchase on it,” Warnock stated on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Andre looked heavy in the last five or so minutes but he takes a shot and it takes a wicked deflection to loop over Alisson.”

And this is why Wolves are going doing. Bellegarde plays a horrific pass straight to Salah who runs at Krecji into the box and pokes a clever finish with the outside of his foot.
Straight back to the centre-circle. No time to waste.
