Arsenal have considered Mainz forward Nelson Weiper as an alternative to Viktor Gyokeres, with talks continuing for the Swedish forward.
The Gunners are still in line to sign the Sporting CP forward but as with all transfers, the Premier League side is preparing themselves for any unlikely outcome.
Football Transfer News reports that Arsenal have been impressed with the Germany U-21 striker after he scored three goals and provided two assists at the U-21 European Championship.

Viktor Gyokeres’ potential transfer to Arsenal remains uncertain, with the striker’s father reportedly in tears amid fears the deal could collapse.
Arsenal have identified the Sweden international as their top priority to bolster their attacking options and have made significant strides in recent weeks to bring him to north London.
Gyokeres is eager to make the switch and has refused to report for pre-season training with Sporting CP.
However, an agreement on the transfer fee has yet to be finalized.
Although the Gunners are prepared to pay €63.5 million (£54.9m) up front, Sporting are holding out for additional payments through performance-related add-ons.
