The latest Liverpool transfer news as the Reds kick-off their Premier League defense

Alexander Isak has been linked with a blockbuster transfer to Liverpool

There are now a matter of days before reigning champions Liverpool kick-off the new 2025/26 Premier League season. The Reds host AFC Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday, August 15 (8pm).

The game could see a few competitive debuts for the club, if the weekend’s Community Shield is counted as a friendly. Arne Slot’s side have been active in the window, bringing six new players to the club so far.

Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong were named in the starting XI for the clash at Wembley against Crystal Palace, with the former and the latter getting on the scoresheet. They will hope to have a similar influence in Friday night’s Premier League curtain raiser.

During build-up to the game, work is still going on behind-the-scenes on transfers.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with possible transfers for both Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and Palace defender Marc Guehi.

While a move for either player before the first game of the campaign now seems highly unlikely to be completed, Liverpool will be at a slight disadvantage to some of their rivals if they do find a sudden breakthrough in the deals.
