Then Federico Chiesa put Anfield into oblivion with a late third. Then Mohamed Salah wrapped up the points. Of course he did.
There were more sombre scenes. Anfield paid tribute to Diogo Jota as emotion gripped this club again. There was an unfortunate incident for Semenyo, who reported racist abuse in the first half.
