McAtee joins Forest in £30m deal from Man City

 

James McAtee has signed for Nottingham Forest from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £30m.

 

McAtee has signed a five-year contract and becomes Forest’s second signing of the day following the arrival of Omari Hutchinson.

 

Sky Sports News understands that sell-on and buy-back clauses have been included in the agreement.

 

Forest initially had a bid in the region of £25m rejected.

Brentford sign Ouattara for club-record deal

 

Brentford have signed forward Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth on a five-year contract in a club-record deal of £42m.

 

Bournemouth were reluctant to sell, but after Ouattara made it clear he wanted to leave, the club had no option but to allow him to go for a price they feel is fair market value, which includes add-ons.

 

The transfer surpasses Brentford’s previous club-record deal of £30m when they signed striker Igor Thiago from Club Bruges last summer.

 

Ouattara joined Bournemouth from Lorient in January 2023 and has made 88 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists.

Rangers hold talks with Brentford over Meghoma

Rangers have held initial talks with Brentford over a deal to sign left-back Jayden Meghoma on loan.

 

The 19-year-old moved to the Premier League club from Southampton in a deal worth around £10m last year, and spent last season on loan at Preston.

 

Ibrox boss Russell Martin worked with Meghoma briefly during his time at Southampton and the England youth international is highly rated.

 

Rangers are looking to sign a left-back with Jefte closing in on a move to Brazilian club Palmeiras.

 

The clubs are working to finalise a deal that would see Rangers net a sizeable profit, after the player moved to Glasgow for around £800,000 last summer.

 

Ahead of Rangers’ League Cup match against Alloa, Martin said Jefte is “likely” to depart, after the player was left out of the club’s Champions League play-off squad.

 

Jefte has played 56 times for Rangers, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

Eberechi Eze’s involvement in Crystal Palace’s opener against Chelsea on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, is in question amid a potential move to Tottenham.

 

Spurs are in discussions with Palace over a deal as they look to add a new No 10 before the deadline.

 

A bid has not yet been made and Palace value him at £70m, with two years left on his contract, but Eze has been one of Spurs’ top targets this summer.

 

Palace boss Oliver Glasner said on Friday that he expected Eze to be involved but admitted things could change quickly.

 

Eze was one of several players Arsenal looked into in the first few weeks of the window. Since then, their focus was on other positions. Arsenal’s priority at the moment has switched to player departures.

 

Spurs, who beat Burnley 3-0 in their season opener, also want to sign another winger and interest remains in Savinho at Manchester City.

Silva: Muniz deserves ‘respect’ for playing amid uncertain future

 

Marco Silva says Rodrigo Muniz deserves “respect” for earning Fulham a point at Brighton with a late equaliser amid speculation over his future at the club.

 

The striker has been strongly linked with a move away from the club following an approach from Atalanta, but rescued a draw for Fulham after coming off the bench.

 

After the full-time whistle, the travelling fans sang “We want you to stay” and boss Silva also praised the striker.

 

“I think [Muniz] deserves respect for [playing despite speculation over his future],” said Silva. “The week from him was very, very good in terms of preparation, work ethic and all that stuff was very good and as simple as that, of course he was able to help the team.

 

“He was rewarded for that, he helped the team. I know Rodrigo very well but he show for everybody – amid the noise around him – how he’s a professional football player and how he respects myself, the team-mates as well.

 

“Sometimes it’s not the rumour around themselves, the people around themselves, you are talking about their jobs as well and a lot of things around but I think he’s going to handle in the future even better this type of moments.”

Phil Parkinson wants Wrexham to sign more players after falling to a second straight Championship defeat against West Brom.

 

“The lads we’ve brought in at the moment are really good and I’m pleased with the way they’ve settled in,” said Parkinson.

 

“We probably do need a couple more players, we’re looking at that.

 

“It’s ongoing, it’s obviously busy for all managers and clubs at the moment when you’re preparing for games and looking to improve the squad.”

‘Eze closing in on Spurs move’

 

Eberechi Eze is closing in on a move to Tottenham, reports the Press Association.

 

The England international has reportedly reached an agreement with Crystal Palace that he will not play for them at Chelsea on Sunday.

 

Eze was a critical player as Palace won the FA Cup last season and also featured as the Eagles saw off Liverpool to lift the Community Shield last weekend.

 

The 27-year-old – who has long been linked with a move across London – joined Palace in 2020 from QPR and has gone on to win 11 England caps.

“The growing sense of frustration and anger from the Newcastle fans was evident at the end of the game when they sang ‘There’s only one greedy *******’ as the players left the field.

 

“Eddie Howe had asked the fans to back the team. They left it till the end to make their feelings clear.

 

“Howe said afterwards the door is still open for Alexander Isak, and that only one person can give a resolution to the situation, and they need one. However, the strength of feeling from the Newcastle fans would, for me, make it even more difficult for Isak to return.

 

“Could their minds be changed? Time will tell. But I felt watching that today, it was such a sad situation. Newcastle had all their players available, apart from their talisman. With Isak in the team, they would have won.

 

“The supporters are upset, they’re angry. They don’t understand why a player earning £150,000 per week can be so unhappy. They would give their right arm to be the No 9 for Newcastle, and they can’t get their heads around why Isak wouldn’t want to be, or why he would conduct himself the way he has.

 

“There are young kids with ‘Isak 14’ shirts everywhere you look in Newcastle. There’s fans with Isak tattooed on their arm because he scored in the cup final.

 

“He reduced tens of thousands of them to tears with that goal against Liverpool. Who would have thought that, just a few months later, he would have angered them the way he has?

 

“Where do Newcastle go from here? It’s hard to tell. I still think it’s 50/50 whether he leaves or not. If he stays, it feels like this circus will carry on and that’s something Howe will not want. He said today he’s made it perfectly clear what his stance is – he wants Isak back. But he’s going to have to do the mother of all man-management jobs on Isak to get him back firing.

Forest sign Hutchinson from Ipswich in £37.5m deal

 

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich in a £37.5m deal.

 

Forest initially had a bid worth £35m rejected by Ipswich while Brentford also held an interest in the forward earlier in the window but failed to agree a deal.

 

Hutchinson signed for Ipswich in June last year, having enjoyed a successful loan spell from Chelsea in which he helped the club win promotion to the Premier League.

 

The 21-year-old made 32 appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Ederson has not been named in Manchester City’s squad for their season-starting game at Wolves, live on Sky Sports, amid doubts about his future.

 

Galatasaray have made an offer of around (£8.6m) €10m for the Brazil goalkeeper.

 

Man City manager Pep Guardiola said Ederson’s absence is due to illness.

 

“He had stomach problems yesterday, he vomited and didn’t feel good,” said Guardiola. “The doctors decided he should stay in Manchester.”

Eddie Howe has described Jacob Ramsey as an “outstanding player” and admitted that Newcastle’s deal to sign him from Aston Villa is nearing completion.

 

Newcastle have agreed to pay £39m plus £4m in add-ons for the midfielder, who was not involved in Saturday’s goalless draw between the two sides at Villa Park.

 

“It’s getting closer for us but I don’t know the stage it is at,” said Howe.

 

“He will offer strength in depth in that midfield area after losing Sean [Longstaff] and Joe [Willock].

 

“He’s an outstanding player.”

Eddie Howe says the door remains open for Alexander Isak to be reintegrated at Newcastle and hopes the situation surrounding his future will be resolved soon.

 

Isak was not in Newcastle’s squad for their goalless draw with Aston Villa on Saturday as he continues to push for a move to Liverpool.

 

The 25-year-old was missed as Newcastle spurned a series of first-half chances at Villa Park, with fans heard chanting against him during a post-match interview with Anthony Gordon.

 

“Nothing has changed,” he said in his press conference. “The door is well and truly open. He has to decide what he wants to do.

 

“We would like a resolution. We need that clarity. You don’t need any kind of distraction.

 

“I am not in control of that. There is one person who can control that.

 

“Let’s wait and see. I have made my stance clear. I am concentrating on the team.”

 

Newcastle supporters appeared to chant “one greedy *******” about Isak after the game.

 

“The supporters acted really well today,” added Howe. “If afterwards, they want to say something, they are free to do that.”
