Alexander Isak will join Liverpool this summer as long as Newcastle can sign a replacement for the striker first.

That is the view of former England and Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively it was rare that players do not get their way in situations like these.

Isak has been a target of Liverpool’s for much of the summer, and the departure of Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal has seemingly made a space for the 25-year-old’s arrival at Anfield.

However, the sticking point for the Reds is Newcastle’s asking price of £150million [BBC Sport].

Whilst Liverpool can likely afford to pay the fee, it is a huge amount in a summer in which Arne Slot‘s side have already spent in excess of £285m [transfermarkt].

But with just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, time is starting to run out for the Merseyside club to make Isak the Premier League‘s most expensive signing ever.

Matt Le Tissier predicts Liverpool will complete Isak deal

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Le Tissier revealed that he things Isak will end up at Anfield.

However, the Premier League legend did add previously that he thought Isak’s decision to go on strike was “disrespectful”.

But when asked whether he will be a Red before the transfer window reaches it’s conclusion, Le Tissier said: “I think he will be at Liverpool.

“In these situations, it’s very rare that the club comes out on top and the player normally gets his own way.

“Obviously Newcastle probably have to make sure they have a replacement in before they sell him, but I think that probably will happen at some point.

“Come September 1st, I think he’ll be a Liverpool player.”

Hugo Ekitike makes blistering start at Liverpool

The conversation over Isak has dominated for much of the summer, but Hugo Ekitike’s bright start at Liverpool has added a level of complexity to the situation.

The Frenchman, much like the current Newcastle man, is versatile and capable of playing out wide if needs be.

Hugo Ekitike was Liverpool’s best player against Bournemouth.

But Ekitike has now scored twice and assisted once in his opening two games under Slot, and is thriving as a number nine.

Whilst he can play out wide, the Dutch boss may be hesitant to displace the young Frenchman, especially if it comes at the cost of Cody Gakpo’s place in the side, who himself scored in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Bournemouth on the opening day of the Premier League season.
