Semenyo V Rodrygo: Who Would Be The Better Signing For Arsenal? We Take A Look At The Numbers

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is still believed to be keen on bringing in a left winger before the transfer window closes.

While any signing may still hinge on outgoings, it has been suggested by some sources that the Gunners could target Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.

With Real Madrid’s Rodrygo having also been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, we thought we would compare the two players based on league statistics from last season.

Non-penalty xG and xA

These two stats combined give us a good idea about a player’s goal threat. Non-penalty expected goals removes penalties, which can skew results, while expected assists gives us a gauge on how creative a player is.

In the Premier League last season, Semenyo averaged 0.44 non-penalty xG and xA per 90 minutes. That figure is considerably higher than Rodrygo’s 0.32 per 90.

When you consider that Bournemouth are nowhere near as dominant when it comes to possession, Semenyo’s number is even more impressive.
