Arsenal ‘weigh up’ move to sign £80m Premier League award-winning midfielder
Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Aston Villa’s attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers before the end of the summer transfer window.
Despite signing six players this summer already, Mikel Arteta is still looking to add more quality to their forward areas, and the Gunners are reportedly close to signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
The north London club have reportedly agreed a deal for the 27-year-old attacking midfielder, and the player wants to say goodbye to the Palace fans and play one last game for them before moving to Arsenal.
However, it appears that the Gunners could still look to add more firepower to their forward areas, as Kai Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, although the extent of the damage is unknown.
Arsenal to reignite interest in Rogers?
According to a report from The Sun, the Gunners were already monitoring Rogers this summer, and they could return for him before the window ends.
The 23-year-old joined Villa in the January window of 2024 from Middlesbrough and quickly became one of the key players under Unai Emery.
Capable of playing across all four positions upfront, Morgan was one of the standout performers for Villa last season, registering 14 goals and 16 assists in all competitions, and he deservedly won the PFA Young Player of the Year award on Tuesday night.
Villa are determined to hold on to him, having already sold Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United, and they are unwilling to entertain any offers for less than £80m.
Could Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal in Rogers chase?
Tottenham were in negotiations with Palace over signing Eze, but Arsenal moved in quickly to hijack the deal.
The north London club have reportedly turned their attention towards signing Rogers, with The Independent reporting that the Villa midfielder has emerged as their top priority target.
If Arsenal can sign both Eze and Rogers this summer, they will have one of the best attacking setups in the entire league, but whether they will move for the Villa attacker is a big question.
Tottenham are desperate to sign a quality attacking midfielder following the injury to James Maddison, and while Rogers would be a terrific signing for them, Spurs should move on to more realistic targets, such as Tyler Dibling.
