Rumour Mongering: Crystal Palace Prepared to Sell Marc Guéhi On Friday

Liverpool target Marc Guéhi could be sold by Palace following Thursday night’s Conference League playoff.

Liverpool could sign centre half target Marc Guéhi following Crystal Palace’s Thursday night Europa Conference League playoff second leg against Norwegian side Fredrikstad, with the London club having come to accept they must cash in now or lose the player on a free next summer but wanting his help securing European football first.

That’s the latest transfer chatter as the summer window heads towards its final days, with the window set to slam shut on Monday night and Liverpool desperate to bring in at least two more signings. If all goes to plan one will be the 25-year-old Palace centre half and England international, with the other Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Liverpool and Palace reached an impasse earlier in the summer, with the Reds signalling they wanted to pay no more than £35M for Guéhi while Palace have held out for £45M. Then, as Palace’s Conference League playoff approached and with the deal stalled, the London club made clear they would not sell Guéhi until afterwards.

“We have to, especially for the second leg,” Palace manager Oliver Glasner said last week when asked if the club would hold on to Guéhi through at least this Thursday’s Europa Conference League second leg playoff tie against Fredrikstad. “No injured players will be coming back and we cannot register anyone so we have to keep him.”

Any signing over the past week would not have been able to integrate in time to play, but Palace have continued to search for Guéhi replacements and currently Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji is the player being discussed most in the world of rumour mongering, with expectations that things will start moving quickly after tonight
