Liverpool: What games Alisson Becker will miss after injury update as Manchester United ‘surprise’ revealed

Arne Slot has said Alisson Becker is unlikely to return for Liverpool’s game against Manchester United after the international break.

The Brazilian goalkeeper limped off during Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Galatasaray in midweek, and has already been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League clash away at Chelsea.

Furthermore, Alisson will not feature for Brazil in their upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan.

“Alisson is not part of the squad tomorrow and he is not going to travel to Brazil as well for the national team, “ Slot told reporters in the Liverpool press conference on Friday morning.

“So he will be out for Saturday.”

There had been reports that Alisson is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks. While Slot did not confirm a timeline for a return, he did all but rule the goalkeeper out of the Man United showdown on October 19.

“It depends on how fast the recovery goes, so it’s clear that he is not going to play for Brazil,” Slot added.

“I will be surprised if he [Alisson] will be there for the first game after the international break. From there on things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It’s difficult to say the amount of days and weeks.

“For the upcoming games he will not be apart of us or the Brazil team.”

Alisson’s absence is likely to mean Giorgi Mamardashvili will make his Premier League debut against Chelsea and Slot has every confidence in the Georgia international.

“I think we’ve seen against Southampton how well he’s adjusted,” Slot said. “We knew we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper.

“When he plays his first game that’s a way of seeing he’s adjusted really well to our club. It’s not a surprise because he’s a quality goalkeeper.

“Now he can do what we’ve had to do so many times in the past replacing Alisson, like we’ve done so many times before.”
