Arsenal: Expert Predicts How Long Gabriel Will Miss After Limping Off During Brazil vs Senegal

An injury expert has given an update on Arsenal centre-back Gabriel after he was brought off during Brazil’s 2-0 win against Senegal on Saturday with an injury.
The defender pulled up while running back to defend during the international friendly at the Emirates Stadium.
Immediately substituted following the incident, Gabriel appeared to be in serious discomfort, with speculation mounting that it could be a groin injury as he was seen holding the top of his right leg.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti said after the game that he was unsure about the severity of the injury, and that further checks will be done on Sunday. He said
“Bad? I don’t know, he had a problem on his adductor, the medical staff have to check tomorrow. We are really sorry for this, really disappointed, when players have an injury I hope they can recover well and soon.”

While Arteta will be waiting for further information from the checks tomorrow, injury expert Physio Scout has given their thoughts on the potential injury. Their assessment stated that injuries closer to the hip are typically more serious, and that while most players could return between one and three weeks, a more severe injury could lead to a prolonged time on the treatment table.
“With groins and hamstrings, injuries closer to the hip (proximal) are generally more concerning than those further down the muscle,” they wrote.
“Most groin problems end up being minor, with players back in 1β3 weeks, but the fact that heβs feeling it higher up makes me more cautious here and raises the risk of a Grade 2+ injury.”
A grade two injury could result in Gabriel being out for three to six weeks. However, a grade three groin injury would be anywhere from six to eight weeks, and potentially even more.

That would make the Brazilian a major doubt for Arsenal’s first game back after the international break, which is against north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners also have a tough run of games against Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa beyond that.
Gabriel’s absence for those ties would be a big blow to Arteta, as he’s been a standout player in the opening 11 league fixtures of the season. Playing a maximum 990 minutes, he has scored once and assisted teammates on two occasions, with him a vital part of their set-piece routines.
His form has helped make Arsenal favourites for the Premier League this term. The Gunners currently sit on 26 points, four clear of second-placed Manchester City. Arteta is likely to turn to Cristhian Mosquera in the Brazilian’s absence, while Piero Hincapie might also be an option for the north Londoners.

Following the match, further information came to light which revealed that Gabriel had warmed up separately to the rest of Brazil’s squad on Friday. According to Sky Sports News, the national team had been trying to manage his load as he had played a lot in recent weeks.
Despite being aware of the defender’s fitness issues, Ancelotti decided to play him anyway, and that decision has infuriated Arsenal fans, who believe it was an unnecessary risk from the head coach. One fan wrote, “Trained separately from the squad to manage his load but went ahead and played him for over 80 minutes. Well done Ancelotti.”
Another was left equally exasperated, adding: “And they still played him from the startβ¦ horrible management.” And an additional fan slammed the coaching staff, saying: “Absolutely insane that he played the game. Completely irresponsible from everyone involved.”
Other supporters were even more frustrated that Ancelotti had chosen to play Gabriel in a friendly, with nothing on the line for the Selecao. A supporter wrote: “‘Manage his load’ but they still played him in a meaningless game.” That was echoed by a final fan, who said: “I don’t understand why they played him then!? It’s a friendly match. If ANY player is struggling with any even minor injury why risk them? Especially at such a busy point in the season.”

Lucky Arsenal were let off the hook in dramatic style as they claimed a 2-1 win against Wolves thanks to two own goals from the Premier League’s basement boys, with Yerson Mosquera heading what proved to be the winner past his own keeper Sam Johnstone deep into stoppage time at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s league leaders looked to have dropped two costly points when Mateus Mane glanced a header past David Raya with just seconds remaining to cancel out Arsenal’s opener, which had come when Bukayo Saka’s inswinging corner had struck the far post and gone in off the back of the unfortunate Johnstone.
But they somehow found a way to claim a crucial victory moments later when Saka’s ball in from the right was flicked beyond the despairing Johnstone. It initially looked like substitute Gabriel Jesus, making his first Emirates appearance in just under a year, had got the decisive touch, but replays showed it was in fact Mosquera who got his head to the ball first and inadvertently deflected it into his own net.
It was a hugely fortunate moment for Arsenal, who were poor throughout, but they will take their bit of luck, with the win moving them five-points clear at the top of the table ahead of Manchester City, who play at Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Awful to see him limp of with a hamstring injury early on, just as he’d got himself back in the side.
Jurrien Timber (6/10):
Started off at centre-back, but ended up at right-back after White’s injury. Comfortable night’s work for the large part.
William Saliba (6/10):
Back in the side after injury and looked quite sharp. Not tested too much until those final seconds.
Piero Hincapie (7/10):
Started out at left-back but shifted back into the centre after White’s injury. Solid.

Martin Zubimendi (6/10):
Replaced in the second half, neat and tidy but unable to make the sort of impact he did in midweek.
Declan Rice (7/10):
Set piece delivery was unusually poor. Put it a disappointing corner early on which set the tone for a frustrating night. Not at his best, but still probably the best player on the pitch.
Eberechi Eze (5/10):
No real impact. Was often picking the ball up deep and never really looked like hurting Wolves.
Attack
Bukayo Saka (7/10):
Probably the pick of Arsenal’s attackers, but that’s no saying much. Put in one great ball in the first half that deserved better. It was his corner that led to the Johnstone own goal and his crossed that forced the eventual winner.
Viktor Gyokeres (5/10):
Just couldn’t get into the game. Improved a bit after half-time, but Arsenal need more from him. Had one nice moment just before being replaced when he fired just wide.
Gabriel Martinelli (5/10):
His best moment came seconds before he went off when Β he drove into the box and curled an effort wide. Disappointing.

Replaced the injured Ben White in the first half. Decent enough showing. Looked to get forward when he could.

Added a bit more energy, but is passing was a bit off.

Made five changes, but would have been hoping for far more from his side. In hindsight, starting White for the fourth time in a row did not look like a great decision.
