Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres in hunt for new striker as Sporting CP star emerges as alternative to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak

Arsenal are interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP this summer as Mikel Arteta hunts for a new striker.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Per The Athletic, Arsenal are developing a strong interest in signing Gyokeres from Sporting in the summer. New sporting director Andrea Berti is a big admirer of the striker, and he represents a more cost-effective option than Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, while RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko has also been considered, but he has multiple suitors.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Gyokeres has scored 85 goals in 92 games for Sporting, and is emerging as the Gunners’ top target. It is unclear how much he will cost, but he has a contract with the Portuguese club until 2028.
Gyokeres is on a remarkable scoring run and has netted eight times in his last five games. In the Primeira Liga, he has netted 30 times in 26 outings, while also scoring six goals in eight Champions League games.
