Arsenal transfer targets Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze

Hello and welcome to the latest Arsenal transfer news live blog from football.london.

The summer transfer window is into its final fortnight, with the Gunners due to be busy between now and deadline day. Arsenal have already made six signings and could complete a seventh, but their focus for now is understood to be on outgoings, having yet to sanction a significant sale.

Fabio Vieira, Jakub Kiwior, Leandro Trossard and Oleksandr Zinchenko could all depart the club during these last two weeks of the window. football.london understands that talks are ongoing with Stuttgart regarding the former, with West Ham United also credited as holding an interest in Vieira.

Fenerbahce are linked with Zinchenko, while multiple Premier League clubs are said to have enquired about Trossard. Kiwior is also reportedly attracting interest from Porto.

As for incoming, Lee Kang-in is the latest name who Arsenal are a club credited with an interest in. There are also equally tentative links with Antoine Semenyo and Frenkie De Jong.

Ebere Eze and Rodrygo still remain on the market, too. Tottenham Hotspur, however, seem set to sign the latter, while the latter appears likely to remain at Real Madrid despite reputed interest from Manchester City.

Surprise transfer blow

French publication Footmercato claim that Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet was targeted by Arsenal at the start of the transfer window but declined the approach.

The 20-year-old – who spent the first part of the 2024/25 season on loan at Clermont Foot – returned to Rennes in February and made 11 Ligue 1 appearances, missing just three matches since his return.

Arsenal told Martinelli worth

Micah Richards has offered his view on Gyokeres – as he also urged Arteta to replace Gabriel Martinelli. According to The Athletic, if sold, the Gunners would reportedly want at least £50m for the Brazilian.

“How many times have we said Arsenal need a new striker? We said it every week last season,” he told The Rest Is Football podcast.

“They’ve needed one for a while now. I still believe they need a left winger as well, they have been linked with Eze haven’t they. I think Martinelli can definitely do a job but he’s more of an impact player right now, great to have off the bench, so if they could get Eze that would be amazing.”

Arsenal get major Rodrygo transfer boost

Arsenal have been handed a significant boost in their potential pursuit of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Spanish publication Marca have reported that the Gunners-linked forward became increasingly frustrated throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite appearing in 50 fixtures across all competitions, including 38 from the start, his position was transformed due to the marquee signings of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, resulting in tactical modifications by then-boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The Brazilian has subsequently found opportunities limited under new Real manager, Xabi Alonso, at the recent Club World Cup where he was relegated to the substitutes’ bench for half of their fixtures.

Stelling added:

He’s a lovely bloke; obviously, his partner [Perrie Edwards] and son [Axel] are in this country; it’s a no-brainer.

Lookman ‘opportunity’ could emerge after Arsenal departure

Ademola Lookman reportedly could be an option for Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano has said in his latest YouTube video.

Let’s see what happens at Arsenal. Arsenal are very happy with the squad they have right now up front.

In terms of age, probably Lookman is not exactly the profile of player that Arsenal usually sign. But maybe if Trossard decides to leave in the final weeks, that could be an opportunity.

Saka makes Arsenal promise

Bukayo Saka has admitted Arsenal’s performance against Manchester United “was not great” but insisted he was “impressed” with Viktor Gyokeres’ Premier League debut.

“It was not a great performance,” Saka said. “We are happy with the three points, to come away from Old Trafford with a win.

“We were not up to our usual standards, the basics, sloppy giveaways. Our decision making was not great and that cost us and gave United a lot of momentum. We did not get punished for it but we cannot do it every game.”
