In a charged and insightful press conference, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has offered a stark warning to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta ahead of the Gunners’ crucial Champions League semi-final showdown against Paris Saint-Germain.

Emery, who famously defeated PSG earlier this season at Villa Park, didn’t mince his words:

“Arteta should know that this is not the same PSG they played in the group stage. This team has evolved, and if Arteta fails to use this tactic, I’m afraid they will go trophyless again this season.”

The former Arsenal boss, now turning heads with his impressive Villa side, was referring to the tactical masterclass that helped him outsmart Luis Enrique’s PSG side in Europe. Emery revealed that the key to breaking down the Parisians lies in a structured high press combined with disciplined midfield compactness—a strategy that frustrated PSG’s rhythm and stifled their front three.

“When we played them, we didn’t give their midfielders time to breathe. We pressed high, cut off the supply to Mbappé and Dembélé, and forced their full-backs into mistakes. That’s the game plan. That’s how we won,” Emery stated.

While Arteta’s Arsenal managed to top their group earlier this season, Emery reminded everyone that this is a different PSG—sharper, more cohesive, and far more dangerous on the break. He emphasized that PSG’s transition play has improved massively and warned that failing to control those moments could be fatal.

“This time around, PSG are more balanced. They’re not relying on individuals like before—they’re a unit. If Arsenal try to play too open, they’ll be punished. Arteta must be smart. Stay compact, press intelligently, and hit with precision,” Emery added.

With Arsenal still hunting for their first piece of European silverware and their Premier League hopes hanging by a thread, this semi-final could define their season. Emery’s advice comes from experience and tactical know-how—and many Arsenal fans are now hoping Arteta takes notes.

This was the same game plan that Unai Emery used to defeat PSG. We just hope Arteta will comply.
