Arsenal have been warned over signing Alexander Isak.

 

Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal ‘target’ Alexander Isak is one of the best strikers in the world – with only Erling Haaland better than the Newcastle United striker. However, the Liverpool icon has expressed his concerns about the Sweden forwards injury record.

 

The Gunners were strongly linked with the 25-year-old during the summer, with manager Mikel Arteta always exploring new opportunities to strengthen their attacking options. Isak has four years remaining on his current contract and reports suggest talks are underway over an extension under fresh terms.

 

Since signing from Real Sociedad for a lofty £60million, Isak has established himself as a key member of Eddie Howe’s side, scoring 36 goals in 74 appearances for the Magpies. However, persistent injuries have hampered the striker’s involvement in the North East, and Carragher is concerned about this.

 

He explained: “I think when he’s fit and firing, most people in the league, no matter who you support, would say he’s the one you look at probably looks at him after Haaland.

 

“There was talk of Arsenal being interested. The one thing with him, it very rarely feels like he can play for a full season, every few weeks you think he’s missing a game for one reason or another.

 

“He’s got to make sure he stays fit, if he does, he’s been a sensational signing and I think he’s one of the top centre-forwards in the Premier League.”
