Mohamed Salah is out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the season.

The future of Mohamed Salah is bound to be a big talking point among Liverpool fans until a solution is reached. The forward is one of three big players out of contract at Anfield in the summer.

Academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid, while Virgil van Dijk is the third player who could potentially leave for nothing. The centre-back admitted last month that information around his future will emerge in the next couple of months.

A report in Salah’s home country of Egypt claims that a new contract with Liverpool is closer than ever with talks advancing. Masrawy quotes a source who says: “Negotiations between Liverpool and Rami Abbas, Salah’s agent, are much more advanced this time than ever before, and the offer presented is higher than any offer made to the player before.”

The report also adds that Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid has opened the door for Salah to stay at the club.

Liverpool ‘optimism’

There has been more positive talk surrounding the future of both Salah and teammate Van Dijk. Like Salah, the defender is out of contract at the end of the season.

In his most recent Q&A in The Athletic, journalist David Ornstein spoke about the future of both players. “Liverpool are optimistic both will renew their contracts and that it is just a matter of time,” he said.

“Until it is done, we can’t say for certain, and it would appear there is still work to do. But there has been nothing so far to suggest Liverpool’s confidence has changed on these two.”

Liverpool sent warning

Gary Neville has warned Liverpool that they would spend £250 million on replacements if the club lose all three of Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk on free transfers at the end of the season.

“At the end of the season, it will leave Liverpool a huge hole if those three players leave on a free,” he said.
