Arsenal were left furious after Michael Oliver decided to send Myles Lewis-Skelly off against Wolves on Saturday.

The Gunners still managed to secure a vital 1-0 win to keep their Premier League title hopes alive thanks to a late Riccardo Calafiori goal, although Arsenal were forced to play more than half of the game with only ten men.

Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card for a professional foul on Matt Doherty, just as Wolves were about to launch a counter attack, although it seemed more like a yellow card, in truth.

Alan Shearer felt it was a harsh call to dismiss the Arsenal No.49 at Molineux – as did Mikel Arteta – although more punishment could be in store for the Gunners.

FA could slap Arsenal with a fine for surrounding Michael Oliver

The FA (Football Association) have previously charged Arsenal thousands in fines for surrounding referees.

Back in February 2023, the Gunners were fined £60,000 after swarming David Coote during a 3-0 FA Cup win over Oxford, as Arsenal desperately appealed for a penalty.

Then, Arsenal were fined £65,000 by the FA for the same offence, after players surrounded Anthony Taylor during a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City, also in February 2023.

The official rule Arsenal broke on these occasions, and also against Wolves on Saturday in our view, is FA Rule E20.1 – which penalises clubs if they “failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion” during games.

As you will have noticed after Lewis-Skelly’s red card at Molineux, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba immediately surrounding Oliver, before Declan Rice – who shouted in the official’s face – Kai Havertz and others quickly followed.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal are fined by the FA once again – although we see no reason why the rule makers would not deem this to be another breach of FA Rule E20.1 after the offences against Oxford and Manchester City.

The games Myles Lewis-Skelly could miss if FA decide against rescinding red card

If the FA uphold the decision and make the 18-year-old serve a three-match ban, the teenager will miss some significant games for Arsenal.

Firstly, Lewis-Skelly, who is close to a new contract, would be absent for the Premier League clash against Manchester City on 2nd February at the Emirates Stadium.

The PGMOL stand by Michael Oliver’s decision to send off Myles Lewis-Skelly and the VAR process that followed.

The England U19 international would also miss the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle at St James’ Park, where Arsenal must overturn a two-goal deficit.

Lastly, the third game Lewis-Skelly would miss if his ban is uphold is a Premier League clash against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
