Liverpool are still dealing with a few injury problems as they continue a crucial run of fixtures in the Premier League.
The Reds defied a disappointing second-half performance to hold on for a valuable 2-1 win over relegation-battling Wolves at Anfield on Sunday that saw Arne Slot’s leaders restore their seven-point advantage at the summit over nearest title challengers Arsenal.
While it certainly wasn’t the best of performances to bounce back from a shock FA Cup exit at Plymouth and the Merseyside derby mayhem against Everton, it was nevertheless an important victory for Liverpool as they face some tough fixtures coming up in such a short space of time.
A trip to Aston Villa is up next on the agenda with another quick turnaround on Wednesday night, followed swiftly by a huge visit to Manchester City and then Newcastle head to Anfield for a top-flight contest that serves as a dress rehearsal for next month’s Carabao Cup final, which comes before another Merseyside derby.
Liverpool will definitely have Curtis Jones back in contention against Villa after he served his one-match suspension in the win over Wolves, while it remains to be seen if Slot or assistant Sipke Hulshoff will be in the dugout having both been hit with Football Association (FA) charges following their respective post-match red cards at Goodison Park. They have until Wednesday to respond.
Here is all the latest Liverpool injury news with another huge week ahead in their pursuit of a first league title since 2020.
Cody Gakpo
Liverpool dealt with a new setback ahead of the win over Wolves, with Cody Gakpo substituted against Everton with around 20 minutes to go.

Slot later confirmed that his compatriot had suffered an unspecified knock and was a doubt for the weekend, with Gakpo missing from training at Kirkby and then not named in the matchday squad at Anfield.
Diogo Jota took his place in Liverpool’s front three against Wolves instead as he started in the league for the first time since October 20, picked ahead of Darwin Nunez to play a central role in attack alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

Slot has not ruled out the possibility of Gakpo – who has 16 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions so far this season – potentially being back for the trip to Villa Park, though it sounds doubtful with it not being a minor knock.
He said of Gakpo’s absence on Sunday: “Cody didn’t have a yellow card or whatever! He got a knock in the Everton game. A few of us got a knock but he got an injury from that.”
Asked if he could be back at Villa, the manager responded: “Under debate. It’s fast, Wednesday already, so let’s wait and see. It wasn’t a soft knock then!”
Potential return date: Wednesday, February 19 vs Aston Villa or Sunday, February 23 vs Manchester City
Joe Gomez
Joe Gomez missed the whole of January with a hamstring injury suffered against West Ham in Liverpool’s final fixture of 2024, returning to action with a start last weekend against Championship strugglers Plymouth in the FA Cup.
However, he lasted just 10 minutes of the fourth round tie at Home Park before going down and needing to be replaced.
Slot admitted concern that the issue was with the same leg, with subsequent reports confirming more hamstring trouble as Gomez undergoes further assessment amid fears that he could be set for another lengthy spell out.
No further update has been forthcoming from Slot or Liverpool yet, but the England defender will surely play no part in the fixtures ahead, barring some unexpected good news.
Potential return date: Unknown
Tyler Morton
The 22-year-old midfielder has made a handful of first-team appearances for Liverpool so far this season, including against Accrington Stanley and PSV Eindhoven in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively last month.
However, Tyler Morton now looks set to miss the rest of the season, with reports that he is expected to be sidelined for three months after undergoing surgery on a shoulder injury that has been lingering since he started against Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December.
Potential return date: May 2025
