Liverpool have left Mohamed Salah out of Tuesday’s Champions League squad to face Inter Milan, but the forward will not face any disciplinary action over his bombshell comments.

His omission comes just two days after he gave an explosive interview following the 3-3 draw with Leeds, claiming he had been “thrown under the bus”, had no relationship with boss Arne Slot and that Saturday’s match with Brighton could be his final game at Anfield.

It is understood his absence is a club decision, taken in consultation with and with the full support of Slot.

It is also understood there is a belief that a period away from selection is in the best interests of the player, the squad and the club at this time.

What did Salah say on Saturday?

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Salah – who signed a new deal at the end of last season – said: “I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season. Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why.

“It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games so I can’t say they keep the promise.

“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”

Asked if his relationship with Arne Slot had broken down, he said: “Yeah, there’s no relationship between us. It was a very good relationship and now all of a sudden there is no relationship.”

There was also a suggestion that Saturday’s match against Brighton at Anfield could be his last for the club, with the 33-year-old joining up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations next week. He has been linked with a January move to the Saudi Pro League.

Jamie O’Hara criticised Salah’s comments

“I said to [my family], come to the Brighton game. I don’t know if I am going to play or not but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I’m going to enjoy that game because I don’t know what is going to happen now.

“I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go the Africa cup. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.”

Asked if it could be his final game for Liverpool, Salah said: “In football, you never know. I don’t accept this situation. I have done so much for this club.”

Dutch pundit reveals Liverpool manager Arne Slot is a big fan of Japan international

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is a big fan of his former player, Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda, and backed him when others doubted. Thatโ€™s according to Dutch pundit Hans Kraay Junior.

Heโ€™s been speaking to Voetbal International,ย relayed by Voetbal Primeur.ย During that conversation he revealed the Liverpool manager remains a firm fan of his former striker.

Ueda has been in fine form this season, with 19 goals in 21 games in all competitions for Feyenoord to date. He has 18 in 15 in the Eredivisie alone.

Heโ€™s already doubled the nine goals in 31 he managed last season, firmly establishing himself as a key man in this Feyenoord side.

Itโ€™s been a steady rise for the 27-year-old, who initially played a back up role behind Santiago Gimenez after arriving in an โ‚ฌ8m deal in 2023. His first season saw him score just five goals in 37 games as a result, with his second seeing him improve on that, albeit just by four with nine in total in 31.

Arne Slot faith vindicated

Five of his goals came in 36 appearances under Arne Slot, before his eventual move to Liverpool in the summer of 2024. But, according to Kraay Junior, the Reds boss had no doubts the striker would come good.

โ€œMisjudged, misjudged; of course, he was behind Santiago Gimenez, who was often in top form and therefore also found the net quite often,โ€ย he said.

โ€œSo, whether we were wrong isnโ€™t important, but Arne Slotโ€”credit where credit is dueโ€”has told us and me several times when we asked about Uedaโ€™s potential.

Ekitike: โ€œIf Salah Passes Me the Ball, Iโ€™ll Score a Hat-Trick Against Brightonโ€

Hugo Ekitike has sent a clear and confident message ahead of Liverpoolโ€™s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion, boldly claiming that he would score a hat-trick if Mohamed Salah supplies him with the chances.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated Premier League encounter, the forward expressed his belief in both his own finishing ability and Salahโ€™s creativity. According to Ekitike, playing alongside a world-class creator like the Egyptian winger could be the key to unlocking Brightonโ€™s defense.

> โ€œWith a player like Salah, you only need the right movement,โ€ Ekitike reportedly said. โ€œIf he passes the ball to me in the right moments, I am confident I can score three goals against Brighton.โ€

The statement has quickly grabbed attention among Liverpool fans, especially as Salah continues to be the Redsโ€™ main attacking outlet. The Egyptian has been in fine form this season, consistently creating chances and leading the line with experience and quality. Ekitike believes that a partnership between them could be devastating.

Brighton, known for their structured build-up play and high defensive line, could be vulnerable to quick transitions and sharp runs in behindโ€”an area where Ekitike feels he can thrive. His pace, movement, and confidence in front of goal make him a potential threat if given the service.

While some may view Ekitikeโ€™s comments as ambitious, others see it as the mindset of a striker hungry to make a statement on the big stage. Liverpool supporters will be eager to see whether this confidence translates into goals on matchday.

All eyes will now be on Salahโ€™s right footโ€”and whether Ekitike gets the chances he believes will lead to a memorable hat-trick against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Liverpool made concrete offer to sign right-back โ€˜revelationโ€™ last summer and could try again in 2026

Liverpool have so far failed to fully nail down a new starting right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnoldโ€™s summer exit.

The Real Madrid star was a shoo-in across almost a decade with the Reds and has proven difficult to replace for Arne Slot.

Liverpool signed Jeremie Frimpong as a nominal successor to Alexander-Arnold, but the Dutchman has run into a series of injury problems during his first months at the club.

Liverpool ready to try again for Marco Palestra

Given how little has been seen of Frimpong since his arrival, it is slightly difficult to judge exactly whether Liverpool need to sign another new right-back.

However, the feeling is that Liverpool could have probably done with looking at a more orthodox player for the position last summer.

As per Italian outletย Calciomercato, Liverpool did actually attempt to do this in making an offer for Atalantaโ€™s Marco Palestra.

They claim the Reds made a ยฃ17.5m bid to sign Palestra before the season started. Keen to send the 20-year-old out on-loan instead, Atalanta rejected the offer.

The attempt to buy Palestra โ€“ who ultimately joined Cagliari on a temporary basis โ€“ was said to have been part of a wider initiative from Liverpool to scout promising young Italian players, one which led to the signing of Giovanni Leoni.

Despite being knocked back, the Reds are reportedly still interested in Palestra, but have now been joined by โ€˜almost all of Europeโ€™s top clubsโ€™ as the youngster impresses with Cagliari.
