Liverpool are set to go back in for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, having been unsuccessful in their attempts so far.

Liverpool have not admitted defeat in their pursuit of Alexander Isak and have sanctioned a club-record offer, reports claim.

The Newcastle United striker is Liverpool’s top target but the Magpies have resisted the advances of the Premier League champions, even with their talisman not training, refusing to play and wanting out.

Liverpool had a £110 million bid rejected for Isak and Newcastle have regularly communicated that he is not for sale,.

But the saga is not yet complete, with The Sun claiming they remain confident Newcastle will finally budge and sell the Swede for a British-record £130 million.

After drawing 0-0 in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa, Newcastle host Liverpool at St James’ Park in what is sure to be a tasty first home game of the season given the situation.

There will likely be plenty of chats about Isak, whose name was sung in negative terms by the travelling faithful on Saturday lunchtime.

However, it’s said that there will no be official approach until after the game takes place on Monday.

Liverpool still want Isak and Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who is out of contract next summer.

Having seen Ibrahima Konate’s shaky display against Bournemouth, the Reds are prepared to pay £35 million for the England defender and a double swoop for Guehi and Isak would take their summer spending to a whopping £466 million.

Isak has been training alone amid his stand-off with Newcastle and is set to be fined for missing the draw with Villa.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool latest on Isak

According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Real Sociedad man rejected a bumper new contract from Newcastle that included an exit clause in 2026.

If Newcastle give the slightest indication that they could be willing to do business, Liverpool will be ready for a second bid which they hope will secure Isak’s services.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “What’s Liverpool position? Very silent, very quiet, but not sleeping on this one. Liverpool are ready to bid again for Isak.

“Liverpool, if Newcastle will open doors, will be very ready with a new proposal. Forget about Liverpool not bidding, they will be very ready, they are very ready and this is very clear.

“Liverpool have never called any other striker as of today, then if it changes tonight or tomorrow I will let you know, but Liverpool didn’t approach any other striker, only Alexander Isak.

“The focus is very clear, waiting to see what’s going to happen with Newcastle, but the player is very clear, the club is very clear and so just waiting to be together as soon as possible.”

Spurs could help new club snatch Alexander Isak away from Liverpool with unexpected windfall

Spurs could inadvertently stop Liverpool from signing Alexander Isak.

Tottenham could help a new club lure Alexander Isak away from Liverpool with an unexpected windfall as a new transfer target has emerged for Thomas Frank.

Clubs in the Premier League are working hard behind the scenes to recruit new players ahead of next month’s transfer deadline.

That includes Liverpool and Spurs, who are both in the market, having already splashed the cash this summer.

The Reds have signed the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong to name but a few.

As for the North London outfit, they have notably snapped up Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.

Arne Slot is monitoring Isak’s situation, having had a bid for the star forward rejected by Newcastle United.

But it appears they face competition from Real Madrid, who ‘might be in the frame’, according to Richard Keys.

Discussing Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak, Keys revealed: “I heard today that Liverpool have made a bid of £110m. A second offer of £80m now and £60m next season. Take your pick.

“But I’ve also heard that Real Madrid might be in the frame.”

Well, if Real want to sign the Swede from Newcastle this summer, then they know they’ll have to fork out a fee in the region of £150 million.

But their budget for a potential Isak push could be funded by Spurs, who are considering a move for Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo, according to Fichajes.

Sociedad signed Kubo from Real on a permanent deal in the summer of 2022.

According to Marca, Kubo has a release clause of €60 million (£52 million) in his contract.

And Real retain 50 per cent of the player’s rights and would thus receive a cool €30 million (£26 million) if his release clause is triggered.

So, if Spurs activate Kubo’s release clause, then they would inadvertently help generate funds for Real’s potential chase for Isak.

Whether Xabi Alonso wants to add a forward to his squad this summer remains to be seen.

He currently boasts Kylian Mbappe, Endrick and Gonzalo García.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking to sign another forward, having sanctioned the sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, not to mention the passing of Diogo Jota.
