Calafiori and Lewis-Skelly disagreement, Partey dropped – Arsenal line-ups vs Man United
football.london’s writers decide how they think Mikel Arteta should line his Arsenal side up for their Premier League clash against Manchester United
Tom Canton
It is difficult to want to change anything from a side that has just scored seven goals. I cannot wait to see if Martin Odegaard can continue what looked like a real touchstone moment for him as he hit a brace in the Netherlands.
Myles Lewis-Skelly is an amazingly talented young player but I do have some worries over the rashness in his game that could have proven costly at PSV had he been sent off – I would not have complained had he been shown a second yellow card after a late challenge.
Therefore, the impressive display from Riccardo Calafiori who came on for the youngster before half-time leaves me with a no-brainer choice of the Italian this weekend.
Canton’s Arsenal XI vs Manchester United: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Merino, Trossard.
Lee Wilmot
Mikel Arteta will have some interesting decisions to make for his team lineup to face Manchester United on Sunday.
Historically one of the biggest matches in the Premier League season, this weeknd’s clash does not carry such weight as previous years.
Arsenal are all but out of the title race now, 13 points adrift of Liverpool and that could be 16 by the time they kick-off with the Reds taking on rock bottom Southampton the day before. United meanwhile are langushing in the bottom half and with very little to play for in terms of league status.
The interesting decision from an Arsenal point of view will be what Arteta does with Myles Lewis-Skelly following more indiscipline from the young man.
Arsenal guaranteed to be without five stars vs Man Utd as key man returns
I’d play him again, he’s the best man for the job and learning only comes with experience. I’d also give Jurrien Timber a rest to give Ben White some exposure after injury, with the centre-backs as expected.
In midfield, I’m going with Jorginho to partner Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard and then I’m asking Riccardo Calafiori to play in a wide role – he’s so good going forward – with Ethan Nwaneri on the other side and Leandro Trossard through the middle. Mikel Merino looks much better off the bench.
Wilmot’s Arsenal team vs Manchester United: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Jorginho, Rice, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Trossard, Calafiori.
