Trent Alexander-Arnold is still expected to leave Liverpool and join Real Madrid despite speculation, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 26-year-old has made up his mind about his exit and Arne Slot’s side have already moved on.

Instead, the Reds have begun assessing potential alternatives to the right-back and will be prepared to move for the right player in the transfer market.

Football Insider revealed on 27 April that Alexander-Arnold is not part of Slot’s plans for the future at Anfield after his decision to quit the club.

There had been suggestions that a shock U-turn was on the cards with Carlo Ancelotti set to leave Real Madrid this summer.

However, Football Insider revealed on 21 April that the Liverpool star will announce his Real Madrid move soon despite having publicly kept his cards close to his chest.

Alongside their efforts to replace Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool are also preparing to strengthen their squad across the board with a number of names on their list.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 1 May that Slot is pushing to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig this summer.

Just six months after the Netherlands international made his move to RB Leipzig permanent, the Bundesliga outfit are believed to be willing to let him leave for the right price.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in February that Liverpool would have to pay £60million for Simons, who is capable of playing both in midfield and out wide.
