Was unable to prevent Leandro Trossard from scoring with a low strike from just inside the penalty area, but was a very reliable presence as the game went on.

LB: Jake O’Brien – 6/10

Went into the referee’s book after 20 minutes for a heavy tackle.

CB: James Tarkowski – 6/10

Was kept busy with Arsenal’s probing, the defender had the spotlight on him after his foul in the Merseyside derby. Went into the book.

CB: Jarrod Branthwaite – 6/10

Left chasing shadows when he was caught up field and Raheem Sterling ran with the ball to assist to make it 1-0 to Arsenal.

RB: Nathan Patterson – 6/10

Solid if unspectacular performance from the full-back.

DM: Idrissa Gueye – 6.5/10

Had to do plenty of the ugly stuff to keep the Toffees in the game.

DM: Tim Iroegbunam – 6/10

Made a crucial early block to deny Raheem Sterling a goal.

LW: Jack Harrison – 6/10

Got himself in a good position early in the second-half to win Everton a spot-kick.

RW: Iliman Ndiaye – 6.5/10

Alive enough to get a shot off for Everton in a somewhat dour first half. Side-footed in Everton’s equaliser from the spot.

AM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6/10

Far more lively in the second-half after Everton equalised as he looked to drive on.

CF: Beto – 6/10

Not able to get involved at all in the first-half as Everton were unable to threaten Arsenal’s goal,but worked hard to lead line.

SUB – James Garner – 5/10

Brought on in second-half as both teams appeared happy with a point.

SUB – Armando Broja – 5/10

Brought on for Beto with 25 minutes to go and was required to work hard.

SUB – Ashley Young – 5/10

Given the last 15 minutes to steady Everton.

SUB – Carlos Alcaraz – 5/10

Made a late entrance as Arsenal took the upper hand.

SUB – Dwight McNeil – 5/10

Everton fans would have been pleased to see him back in

Untroubled in the first-half, so had very little to do, then looked sloppy in the second-half.

RB: Ben White – 5.5/10

Fairly indifferent performance from the full-back and was taken off with 30 minutes to go.

CB: William Saliba – 5.5/10

Not hugely tested, yet he had to be on his guard as Everton remained dogged. Looked vulnerable when Everton went long.

CB: Jakub Kiwior – 6/10

Had to be on guard as Arsenal let a lead slip.

LB: Myles Lewis-Skelly – 6.5/10

Sloppy directly after half-time to concede a penalty and transform the flow of the game, but tried to get his team back into the game.

RM: Mikel Merino – 5.5/10

Was in the wars in the second-half, but wasn’t able to provide the sufficient attacking threat.

CM: Jorginho – 6/10

Went into the book early in the second-half as Everton got back into the game.

LM: Declan Rice – 6/10

Had to huff and puff to get the Gunners going again in the second-half.

RW: Ethan Nwaneri – 4/10

Failed to make an impression and was taken off at half-time.

CF: Leandro Trossard – 6/10

Gave Arsenal the lead with an accomplished finish with his left foot from just inside the penalty area.

LW: Raheem Sterling – 6/10

Made a great run with the ball from within his own half to find Trossard for Arsenal’s opening goal.

SUB – Bukayo Saka – 5/10

Involved early in the second half, but drifted out of it as Everton scrapped away.

SUB – Gabriel Martinelli – 6.5/10

Played the entire second-half and looked bright and lively.

SUB – Martin Odegaard – 5/10

Made very little impression after coming off the bench.

SUB – Jurrien Timber – 5/10

Brought on to replace Ben White.
