Arsenal transfer news LIVE – Rodrygo latest, Jurrien Timber contract, Raheem Sterling link
Catch all the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours live, including updates on Rodrygo and Real Madrid, Jurrien Timber’s talks over a new contract, and Raheem Sterling’s possible move.
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been linked with Arsenal previously.
The January transfer window is finally here, and while Arsenal don’t have to be as active as other clubs in the market, that may not stop them from dipping into it over the coming weeks. Manager Mikel Arteta has outlined that the Gunners will be active, looking at opportunities to strengthen if they arrive.
As it stands, the squad are well stocked in almost every area, meaning some outgoings may have to be pursued before the possibility of a signing. Academy duo Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have both been linked with an exit, as clubs show their interest in a deal for the talented youngsters, following a lack of minutes this season.
In terms of possible signings, the likes of Rodrygo and Arda Guler continue to be linked, following previous interest in the Real Madrid pair. Then there is the possibility of younger additions for the future, with Andrea Berta already sealing a few academy signings for years to come.
Keep up with the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours with today’s live blog.
Rice backs Gyokeres
Declan Rice has leapt to the defence of Viktor Gyokeres following Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Bournemouth.
The 27-year-old striker, whom Arsenal signed from Sporting in the summer for £64million, has only found the net five times in the English top flight this season. Despite his disappointing performances, Rice believes the Gunners will not be able to end their 22-year wait for a Premier League title without him.
The England international has claimed that defenders swarm Gyokeres because he’s ‘one of the best strikers in the world’. Rice said: “It’s tough for him, because he’s got two defenders on him all game, all over him.
“So he has to use his strength, he has to do all he can to help the team and with my first goal, without him making that run from Gabriel Martinelli’s flick and holding it, setting it off to Martin [Odegaard], that goal wouldn’t happen.
“That was a pivotal moment in the game for us to turn the game on its head. I see how hard he hits a ball, and when that space arrives for him, and the ball’s arriving at his feet to score goals, he will 100 per cent score.”
Rice added: “But at the minute, defenders in the Premier League want to be able to stop Viktor Gyokeres, because he’s one of the best strikers in the world.
“Trust me, he’s doing unbelievably for us, and we wouldn’t be where we are without him.”

Man City title blow
Manchester City are waiting on news of two defenders as they count the cost of a damaging draw with Chelsea.
Enzo Fernandez scored a stoppage-time equaliser at the Etihad Stadium as title-chasing City were pegged back to 1-1 by the managerless Londoners on Sunday, leaving them six points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal. The late leveller compounded City’s woes after the loss of two centre-backs in Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias to injury during the second half.
The pair were due to be assessed on Monday but manager Pep Guardiola admitted it “doesn’t look good” for either, suggesting both were facing lay-offs. That would further limit Guardiola’s defensive options with John Stones having been out for the past month with a thigh injury and Rayan Ait-Nouri away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
In addition, midfielder Nico Gonzalez missed the Chelsea game with a knock and Guardiola is also without Savinho, Oscar Bobb, Mateo Kovacic and Omar Marmoush for Wednesday’s clash with Brighton.

Bournemouth target Arsenal man as Antoine Semenyo replacement
The Daily Mail claims Bournemouth have registered an interest in Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri who could be allowed to leave the Emirates on loan this month.
Both he and fellow academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly have dound regular game time hard to come by so far this season and could be given regular football on loan this month.
Bournemouth, who look set to lose star man Antoine Semenyo to Man City this month, are said to be monitoring Nwaneri as a potential short-term replacement.

Ruben Amorim has been sacked
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been sacked following his recent explosive post-match press conference.
Darren Fletcher is expected to take over on an interim basis. The decision comes just a few days after the Portuguese head coach took aim at the club’s hierarchy following the draw with Leeds United.
Speaking the draw, he said: “Guys, to stop with that, I noticed that you receive selective information about everything. I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United. And that is clear. I know that my name is not Tuchel, it’s not Conte, it’s not Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United.
“And it’s going to be like this for 18 months, or when the board decides to change. So that was my point, I want to finish with that. I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until the other guy is coming here to replace me.
“I just want to say that I’m going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach. And I was really clear on that. And that is going to finish in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal.
“That is my job, not to be a coach. If people cannot handle the Gary Neville and the criticism of everything, we need to change the club. No, guys, I just want to say that I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach.
“And every department, the scouting department, the sports director needs to do their job. I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on.”
Ivan Toney sends Arsenal message
Having been previously linked with a switch to the Emirates, Ivan Toney was evidently tuned in as Arsenal secured victory at Bournemouth. The England forward was thoroughly impressed by Declan Rice’s attacking prowess, as the midfielder netted twice during the encounter.
Toney, now plying his trade with Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, went so far as to suggest his international colleague might possess a future in a more forward-thinking position. He playfully urged Arteta to reconsider Rice’s deployment to better harness his abilities.

Taking to Instagram, Toney commanded Arsenal to “get him up front” after witnessing Rice’s clinical finishing at the Vitality Stadium. He accompanied the message with two heart-eyed emojis, further emphasising his respect for his England compatriot.
The 26 year old Rice found the net with both shots on target whilst maintaining his trademark dynamism throughout the match. Beyond his crucial attacking contributions, he also won all three of his attempted tackles, regained possession eight times, and maintained an 84 per cent pass completion rate.
Only team-mate Marin Zubimendi and Bournemouth’s Marco Senesi recorded more touches during the fixture. Yet neither player could claim to have wielded the same decisive influence in the final third.
This isn’t the first occasion Rice has prompted suggestions for a more advanced role, having previously demonstrated his goalscoring capability. Should Toney not be cautious, he might find himself facing additional competition for a berth in Thomas Tuchel’s forward line.

‘£10m’ signing claim made
Football finance expert Stefan Borson believes the Gunners still have room to sign players in January, but isn’t predicting a busy window for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Speaking to Football Insider, Borson said: “I think there’s some capacity. Given the size of the squad, they always have players around the fringes that they could trade.
“But I think it’s pretty clear that they’ll be very quiet. They’ve spent their money.
“Opportunistically, can they find a £10m player that they quite fancy just to see what happens? That wouldn’t surprise me.”

Arsenal and Liverpool dealt Kenan Yildiz ‘blow’
Last month, reports in Italy claimed Arsenal and Liverpool were interested in signing Juventus star Kenan Yildiz.
The Turkish playmaker has rose to prominence with the Serie A side and is one of the most exciting young talents in European football, with Bayern Munich also said to be keen on his services.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport, claims the Old Lady is in talks with the 20-year-old over a new contract and Yildiz wants to stay at Juve.
They claim a new contract would extend his stay at the club until the summer of 2030 or 2031.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for Juventus star Kenan Yildiz.
Rodrygo exit chance
Real Madrid star Rodrygo could be free to leave the club this January, as he eyes a possible exit in the weeks ahead. That’s according to Diario Sport, which claims the winger has held talks with agents about the possibility of making a move happen.
Arsenal have been previously credited with interest in Rodrygo, but it remains to be seen if a move in January is possible.

Jurrien Timber contract update
Arsenal are closing in on a new contract for Jurrien Timber, according to TEAMtalk. It comes after the defender joined in 2023, though with some struggles in his first year due to injury.
The past 18 months have seen him bounce back stronger, though, as he continues to impress and will be handed a new deal, it seems.

Raheem Sterling move
Former Arsenal loanee Raheem Sterling is open to a move in the January transfer window, as he continues to be cast aside from the rest of the Chelsea squad to force an exit. According to the BBC, the winger is open to leaving London to secure a transfer, while Fulham and West Ham are showing interest in a possible deal.

Virgil van Dijk vented his anger towards Federico Chiesa following Wolves’ decisive goal at Molineux. Rob Edwards’ outfit pulled off a surprise 2-1 triumph in the Premier League as the Reds squandered an opportunity to climb into fourth position.
Mohamed Salah netted an 83rd-minute leveller in a chaotic conclusion after Rodrigo Gomes had opened the scoring in the Midlands. However, Andre sparked wild celebrations in the stands with a 94th-minute winner.
Liverpool skipper Van Dijk was left furious following the late setback and yelled in Chiesa’s direction, evidently unimpressed with the Italian’s contribution. Alisson had launched a pass towards the winger, but after the duo failed to connect, Chiesa did not track back in an attempt to retrieve the ball.
Andre’s strike then deflected beyond the Brazilian and into the net. A series of issues emerged in the post-match analysis.
Van Dijk was more measured in his post-match interview, though still frustrated by the nature of the defeat.

“Conceding goals is always frustrating,” he told TNT Sport when asked if there were any frustrations about the manner of the two Wolves goals. “Obviously we’ve come on the back of a couple of clean sheets and I think defensively we have been very solid.
“But yeah, listen, it is what it is and we have to move quickly on because we come back here in a couple of days and we want to do well in the FA Cup as well and we have to show a reaction.”
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard reckons his former side were sluggish in responding to an error from Alisson. “The Liverpool players from the goalkeeper’s mistake – it’s not the greatest clearance from Alisson – but I just thought they were slow to react in midfield as well,” he commented on TNT Sports.
“You know, Wolves are jumping on the first ball, picking up the second ball. It’s a poor goal from a Liverpool point of view to concede, and it’s another late one. It’s happened too many times that they’re conceding these late goals.
“I just think the speed of the reaction from the poor clearance – I’m sure Alisson will want to own up to it – but the reaction’s just too slow.”
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock, though, laid the blame at a different door. He identified the pass to Alisson as the issue.
“It was a mistake from Curtis Jones – he plays a ball into Alisson and Alisson’s never going to get any purchase on it,” Warnock stated on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Andre looked heavy in the last five or so minutes but he takes a shot and it takes a wicked deflection to loop over Alisson.”
