48 min: CHANCE!

Rice’s free-kick picks out Gyokeres at the back post but he heads wide. Looks like the Arsenal striker gave the defender a nudge in the back, would have been interesting had he scored.

Viktor Gyokeres was left bloodied by a clash of heads with Gabriel as Arsenal returned to the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners pair climbed to meet Declan Rice’s inswinging free kick midway through the first half against Athletic Bilbao, but as Gyokeres made contact with the ball, Gabriel made contact with the back of the striker’s head.

As Mikel Arteta stood on the touchline grimacing at a nasty-looking collision, Arsenal medical staff rushed onto the pitch to treat Gyokeres, with blood soon seen pouring from the back of his head.

Gyokere was thankfully OK to continue, and Gabriel quickly apologised for his involvement.

13: Athletic Club have started the stronger of the two sides and nearly created an opening with a cross from Mikel Jauregizar toward the backpost.

Jurrien Timber is just about able to deal with the delivery which was aimed at Inaki Williams, who applauds his team-mate for the attempt.

9: BLOCK! Adama Boiro takes a shot after Alex Berenguer rolls it across goal for him from the free-kick, but his strike hits one of his own team-mates. It was goalbound, and likely to test David Raya if it hadn’t hit a player in red and white stripes.

7: YELLOW! Declan Rice is booked for a challenge right on the edge of the Arsenal box.

Dangerous position for Athletic Club from the free-kick.

Rice brought down Mikel Jauregizar with a late tackle. Certainly the right call to show the yellow.
