Mixed injury news as Reds gear up for Merseyside derby

“Liverpool have a number of injury worries ahead of their Premier League return against Everton at Anfield on Wednesday night – live on Sky Sports – as Arne Slot’s side look to close in on the Premier League.

Liverpool announce preseason tour in Hong Kong & Japan

Liverpool are heading to Asia this summer for their 2025 preseason tour, playing games in Hong Kong and Japan.

Arne Slot’s side will face AC Milan on Saturday July 26 in Hong Kong at the newly opened Kai Tak Stadium.

The teams will compete for the Standard Chartered Trophy in-front of an anticipated 50,000 fans.

FSG exploring deal for Malaga

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are looking into the potential purchase of Spanish side Malaga as the company looks to expand its football portfolio.

The LaLiga 2 side is the latest football team the group is exploring a potential investment in after initial enquiries over a purchase of French club Bordeaux didn’t get past the exploratory phase last summer

Talks with Bordeaux were ended in the main due to the cost of the stadium in the coming years and the general economic context of French football.

When former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards returned to the FSG fold as the company’s chief executive of football, it was clear they were looking at creating a multi-club model.

Upon the announcement of his return in March last year Edwards said: “One of the biggest factors in my decision is the commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club, growing this area of their organisation.

“I believe that to remain competitive, investment and expansion of the current football portfolio is necessary.”

Malaga reached the Champions League quarter-finals in 2013 under Manuel Pellegrini but were relegated from the top flight in 2018 and have struggled on and off the pitch since.

They were promoted back to the second tier in June last year and are seven points above the relegation zone this time around.

A spokesperson for the company said that FSG routinely engages in conversations and evaluates opportunities across global sports, a common process to assess ventures that align with the organisation’s strategic priorities.

FSG exploring deal for Malaga

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group [FSG] are looking at buying Spanish second division club Malaga, according to The Athletic.

It is believed FSG will initially base their focus on buying majority shareholder Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani’s 51 per cent stake in the club.

An FSG delegation is understood to have visited facilities at Malaga in February to weigh up a possible purchase for their multi-club model.

Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez says he is keen to sign for one of Europe’s top clubs.

Liverpool have been linked with the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

Kerkez was on the books for AC Milan earlier in his career, but never made an appearance, and is now eyeing a return to another big club.
