Liverpool have faced Galatasaray four times previously. They drew 0-0 at Anfield and 1-1 away from home in the 2001-02 Champions League’s second group stage. The clubs also clashed in the competition’s 2006-07 group phase and each won their home fixture 3-2.

The Reds have won only once before against a Turkish team in Turkiye – a 2-1 victory over Trabzonspor in a Europa League play-off tie in 2010-11 under Roy Hodgson.

Liverpool travel to Galatasaray for their first away day of the Champions League league phase.

The Reds won their opening game against Atletico Madrid 3-2 at the death thanks to Virgil van Djik’s last-minute header, after they had been pegged back by Marcos Llorente’s double.

Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah had put the Premier League champions two up within six minutes, but they found themselves struggling the latter stages of the game before van Dijk stepped up to save the day.

On the injury front, the Premier League champions are at full strength, bar Giovanni Leoni, who was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace at the weekend, where summer signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak were both substituted without a goal involvement, and in fact, it was Wirtz’s replacement on the left flank, Federico Chiesa, who notched Liverpool’s equaliser.
