With ex-Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez through the door and Andy Robertson still considered a solid, reliable option at left-back, Konstantinos Tsimikas was deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool and shipped off, on loan, to AS Roma for the 2025/26 season – but how did the 29-year-old perform in his first start, a 2-1 win over OGC Nice, since his summer switch?
Galvanised by the arrival of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, the Italian side have made a terrific start to the new campaign: they are fourth in Serie A, having won three of their four matches thus far. Inside Tsimikas’ Roma Debut After Loan Move from Liverpool

It was rather tricky after his debut – a nine-minute off-the-bench cameo against Lazio in the league – to evaluate how well Tsimikas would fare in the Italian capital, but their latest encounter in Europe’s second-tier competition has given the move plenty of substance, especially as the 43-cap Greece international started from the off.
Playing on the left-hand side of a bank of four, the ex-Olympiacos and Willem II ace was given license to attack down that side as long as he ensured to fulfil his defensive duties too.
In the 55th minute, with Roma chasing a second to double their lead, Tsimikas burst down the left and was found with a pass from Neil El Aynaoui. He took one touch to get the ball out of his feet and then delivered sumptuously, using his sweet left foot, into the danger area. Unlikely scorer Mancini, as alluded to earlier, was first to it. His teasing delivery for Roma’s second of the night aside, his statistical showing is mightily impressive: 80 touches, three chances created, seven passes into the final third and an 84% (43/51) pass accuracy. He also completed two tackles, the same number of clearances and four recoveries. Gasperini will be smiling ear-to-ear with his side’s business.
Not only are club chiefs going to be pleased that Tsimikas will be plying his trade in Roma colours for the rest of the campaign, but the fanbase are too. Taking to social media in the aftermath of their side’s win at the Allianz Riviera, one supporter wrote to praise the seasoned defender: “Tsimikas could be one of our most creative players, such a great guy.”

“Already with Tsimikas’ crosses, it gave the impression of being able to make a difference. The important thing is to serve him well, you can’t serve a striker 90% of the time with his back to the goal, especially if, like Dovbyk, you’re not capable,” a second fan said before another waxed lyrical about their side’s depth in that position: Tsimikas and Angelino.

Thessaloniki-born Tsimikas, who was linked with a £15 million-worth move to Leeds United in the summer of 2025, and Roma return to domestic proceedings this weekend as they welcome 15th-placed Hellas Verona to the Stadio Olimpico before doing the same for LOSC Lille in an attempt to extend their winning streak in the Europa League.
