Jeremie Frimpong’s nightmare start to his Liverpool career has continued, following the details of the right-back’s latest injury.

 

The Dutchman will be sidelined for the next six weeks with a fresh hamstring complaint, talkSPORT understands.

 

It is the second spell in the treatment room since completing a £29.5million move from Bayer Leverkusen in June.

 

Frimpong was the first arrival of Liverpool’s record-breaking £416m summer spend as the replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

 

He scored in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace in August, but suffered an injury on his Premier League debut.

 

Frimpong, who is yet to start another match for the Reds in the top-flight, then tweaked his hamstring in the 5-1 win over Frankfurt.

 

The former Manchester City academy starlet has completed 90 minutes at Anfield just once, in the Carabao Cup third round.

 

Lisandro Martinez has handed Manchester United a huge boost after returning to first-team training this week.

 

The Argentine defender has stepped up his rehabilitation from an ACL injury picked up at the start of the year.

 

The former Ajax defender has been on the sidelines since the closing stages of a defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in February.

 

Martinez soon underwent surgery and, over eight months later, rejoined his United teammates at Carrington training.

 

Ruben Amorim will be without him for this Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest, but there is a chance he could be involved in the matchday squad for United’s clash with Spurs the following weekend.

Kane and able

Harry Kane has been told he could be a ‘fantastic’ NFL kicker after his football career.

 

The England captain has made no secret of his passion for American football in the past.

 

However, a former Super Bowl champion has now endorsed Kane’s potential career change.

 

Dustin Colquitt spent 15 seasons as a kicker with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning the Super Bowl in 2020.

 

He believes Kane has all the skills required to transition into the NFL if he is ‘focused’ on the move.

 

He told BBC Sport: “Absolutely, if he focused on it. He would do fantastic. I’ve seen some of his finishing skills.

 

“I would love to actually work with him just because I love soccer, and his excitement. He’s seeking this out – that’s part of the fibre of his being, that he wants to try this NFL thing.”

Drop it like it’s Slot

it was another night to forget for Liverpool, and Jamie O’Hara feels like Arne Slot gave up with his team selection.

 

The Reds have now lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, and a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace is the first time in 91 years they’ve lost by that scoreline in a domestic cup match at Anfield.

 

Slot elected to make a whole host of changes and handed two debuts to Freddie Woodman and Kieran Morrison.

 

On the bench, he didn’t have any of his stars to call on, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Hugo Ekitike rested.

 

Slot also decided to take off Alexis Mac Allister and Andy Robertson off at 2-0 down.

 

“He threw in the towel,” O’Hara said during a chat with Dean Saunders on the Sports Bar.

 

And Saunders, a former Liverpool player, wasn’t happy with what he saw on Wednesday night.

 

“He’s asking for trouble picking a team like that. As soon as I saw the team, two thoughts came into my head: They’re either trying to get out of the Cup or looking ahead to the next five games.

 

“Villa at home, Real Madrid at home, Man City, Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven… so maybe he’s looking ahead and thinking, ‘that’s what matters.’

 

“The bench tells me everything. Arsenal had a stocked up bench in case things went wrong.

 

“Jurgen Klopp did this in an FA Cup tie against Wolves a few years back but normally he’ll have Salah and the best players on the bench… Palace are a good team and you’re basically playing the under-23s against them.”

Agyemang suffers ACL

Michelle Agyemang ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in England’s 3-0 win over Australia on Tuesday.

 

Brighton have confirmed that the 19-year-old will miss the remainder of the season.

 

The club is in contact with Agyemang’s parent club, Arsenal, and they will work together to determine a rehabilitation programme.

 

“[I’m] disappointed that results show a torn ACL,” she said. “I am so grateful for all the kind words and the support from everyone.

 

“Recovery starts now, I will be back stronger than before.

 

“In all things I give thanks to the Most High God. This test will surely turn into a testimony. ”

Hit them where it hurts

Enzo Maresca has been urged to issue serious fines over poor discipline after another Chelsea red card on Wednesday night.

 

Returning striker Liam Delap was shown two yellows in seven minutes during the 4-3 win at Wolves and will now miss the upcoming Premier League derby against Tottenham.

 

It means the Blues have now been handed six red cards in their last nine matches, including one for Maresca himself.

 

The Italian boss did not hold back in his assessment of Delap’s dismissal, branding it ’embarrassing’ and ‘stupid’.

 

And ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor thinks the worst offenders need to be fined.

 

He told talkSPORT: “You can have some that are accidental, can’t you? Not all the red cards are worth fines.

 

“But some of them, I’m just like… Some of them are so stupid.

 

“If I was the manager… maybe not all of them. But for some, two weeks wages, you’re not going to do that.”

Scheduling chaos

Arsenal and Crystal Palace’s Carabao Cup quarter-final tie is set to cause a serious headache.

 

The last-eight ties are scheduled for the week beginning December 15.

 

Palace have a Premier League match against Man City on December 14 and a Conference League clash against KuPS on December 18.

 

Both clubs are then in top-flight action on December 21 at 2pm.

 

The Carabao Cup clash will have to be moved – with December 23 looking like a possible solution – giving both sides just a two-day turnaround.

 

It would mean Palace having to play four times in ten days.

‘Everything is for him’

Paul Scholes has announced his decision to quit live football duties because everything he now does is to look after his son, who has autism.

 

The Manchester United legend has stepped back from on-screen media roles to prioritise Aiden, due to the level of attention he needs.

 

The 50-year-old was a regular pundit for TNT Sports last season during their coverage of Man United’s run to the Europa League final.

 

However, his last appearance came in May’s showpiece in Bilbao as the Red Devils fell to a 1-0 defeat to domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Eddie Howe is relishing the challenge of fighting on all fronts after steering Newcastle into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the fourth-successive season.

 

The holders were handed a home tie against Fulham, who they beat 2-1 at St James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday, in Wednesday night’s draw after defeating Tottenham 2-0 in the last 16.

 

Speaking before the draw had been made, head coach Howe – who made eight changes with Sunday’s League trip to West Ham and Athletic Bilbao’s Champions League visit to Tyneside to come in the next week – was a happy man.

 

Asked about the challenge of competing in each competition, the Magpies boss said: “We are enjoying it. I always say the games are an amazing experience, each and every one of them.

 

“Preparing for the games is a challenge, of course there’s a lot of work, but it’s what we do and what we love to do.

 

“I really enjoyed the first Champions League season. It was a different focus, less training and more tactical work and I’m enjoying it again. So far, so good.”

 

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has launched a scathing rant towards striker Liam Delap after his red card against Wolves.

 

The Blues striker was shown two yellow cards in the space of seven minutes, being sent off during a 4-3 Carabao Cup win on Wednesday.

 

The Chelsea boss said: “For today we have a very stupid red card, that was completely unnecessary, absolute it was a stupid foul, we can avoid that.

 

“I completely support and understand the red card like against Brighton and Manchester United that is difficult, but the red card against Nottingham and a red card today we can avoid that and we have to avoid that.

 

“It’s embarrassing when it is a red card like today. It’s embarrassing, two yellow cards in seven minutes. Both I think we can avoid.

 

“After the first yellow card I told him to four or five times ‘keep calm’, but he’s a player when he is inside the pitch, probably he is playing the game for himself and he struggled to realise and to listen around him.”

Wow, what an evening in the Carabao Cup!

 

The main story of the night was at Anfield as a weakened Liverpool side were destroyed by Crystal Palace.

 

Ismaila Sarr grabbed his sixth and seventh goals of his career against Liverpool before Yeremy Pino scored as well.

 

At St James’ Park, the holders dished out a first away defeat of the season to Tottenham Hotspur.

 

Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade scored the goals that made the difference.

 

Chelsea survived a dramatic comeback from Wolves to win 4-3 at Molineux with Jamie Gittens scoring a wonder goal, while Liam Delap was sent off.

 

A much-changed Arsenal saw off Brighton, and Manchester City beat Swansea 3-1.

Crystal Palace are running riot, and Yeremy Pino has a goal, which provokes a mass exodus from Anfield.

 

It is such an easy goal as well.

 

The Spanish international drifts in from the left, and he curls into the bottom corner.

LIAM DELAP’S RETURN IS OVER ALREADY!

 

He only came on the field 60 minutes in, and he’s received his second yellow card.

 

He was booked on 79 minutes, and has now picked up another for an elbow on a Wolves defender.

 

So his return from injury lasted 26 minutes.

IT GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE!

 

Liverpool are down to ten men, and it is Amara Nallo who ahs been dismissed.

 

A ball is played through for Justin Devenny, and the young man trips him.

 

He is dismissed and that is the second red card of his senior career in his second appearance after being dismissed against PSV last year.

Wolves are throwing everything at Chelsea, and they are within one goal.

 

It is as route one as it comes as a long throw is flicked on three times.

He then picks out Nwaneri in the box, who strikes a low left-footed effort towards goal.

Tottenham fail to clear a corner, and the ball comes out to Sandro Tonali.

 

He brilliantly reverses a cross into the box for Malick Thiaw.

 

The centre-back should shoot, but he plays it back across goal and behind Harvey Barnes.

 

Barnes goes for the overhead kick and rocks the crossbar.
