The agent of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has claimed Liverpool were interested in signing the player from Manchester City last year
Arne Slot has confirmed Liverpool are in the market for a new number nine this summer with speculation surrounding the long-term future of Darwin Nunez, with the Reds having rejected an approach for the player from Saudi Arabia in January.
Alvarez has been in impressive form for Atletico this season with 22 goals in 43 appearances to help keep Diego Simeone’s side in contention for the domestic title.
However, he was caught up in controversy in midweek when VAR adjudged the striker touched the ball twice when scoring his penalty in the Champions League shoot-out against Real Madrid, with the effort disallowed and Atletico then being dumped out of the competition.

The agent of Julian Alvarez has claimed Liverpool were interested in signing the Argentina World Cup winner from Manchester City last year – and has refused to rule out a possible transfer this summer. Alvarez was signed by City from River Plate in 2022 and went on to score 36 goals in 103 appearances, but was always behind Erling Haaland in the centre-forward pecking order under Pep Guardiola.
The 25-year-old subsequently moved from the Etihad to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in a deal worth more than £80million last August.
