Julian Alvarez to Liverpool transfer highly unlikely – reports

The transfer speculation linking Liverpool with a move for former Manchester City and current Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez is reportedly not expected to materialize into a deal.

Despite being on Liverpool’s radar, with former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown having told Football Insider in March that the Reds were “keeping tabs on Alvarez,” any formal move is now considered “highly unlikely.”

The key factors negating the need for the transfer are new attacking arrivals, with Liverpool’s recent acquisitions of forwards Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike having reportedly satisfied the club’s desire for added attacking talent.

High valuation is also an obstacle. Atletico Madrid reportedly value the Argentina international at over £100 million due to his importance to the Spanish side, a price that would be difficult for Liverpool to justify given their recent spending on other forwards.

Alvarez recently missed Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield due to injury. The forward has been a key player for Atlético since joining them from Manchester City in a club-record deal.

In the 2024-25 season, Alvarez scored 29 goals and provided eight assists in 57 appearances for Atleti across all competitions.
