Arne Slot’s side will look to get back to winning ways after losing three in a row before the international break

Stage set: Liverpool host Manchester United

Liverpool can arrest their losing run with a win over Manchester United today.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea thanks to a galling 95th-minute winner before the international break, allowing title hopefuls Arsenal to usurp them as league leaders, taking a one-point advantage. They consolidated that lead with a narrow away win over Fulham yesterday.

Arne Slot has now lost three on the spin at the hands of Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea – the first time in his career he has done so. Liverpool have only lost one of their last 14 meetings with United, though, so the match presents a good opportunity to get back to form.

United, on the other hand, are out to build a winning run by upsetting the reigning champions after they dispatched newly-promoted Sunderland last time out thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.

Ruben Amorim remains under considerable pressure despite Jim Ratcliffe’s claims he will be safe in his job for three years, but could shoot up the table with a win at Anfield.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Liverpool vs Man United is scheduled for a 4.30pm BST kick-off today, Sunday, October 19, 2025.

The match will take place at Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister may struggle to play a prominent role after returning late from international duty, where he scored a brace for Argentina in a 6-0 defeat of Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

The No9 position remains up for grabs as Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak fight for a starting berth. Neither is in particularly good form, though. Isak is goalless in his last five for club and country, while Ekitike has scored once in the same period of time.

Mohamed Salah has more goal involvements against United than any other player in Premier League history, a record he will be keen to improve this weekend.

Casemiro and Matheus Cunha will both be assessed after their international exploits with Brazil, with Manuel Ugarte potentially coming into midfield.

The likes of captain Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo were also given an extra day off training at Carrington on Thursday but will be ready for Anfield.

Liverpool vs Manchester United prediction

Amorim and Man United are yet to prove themselves against a top side this season. Their three Premier League wins have come against the newly promoted sides Burnley and Sunderland, and Chelsea, who played with ten men from the fifth minute.

One would expect them to struggle against the Premier League champions, then, but the case may not be as cut-and-dry as it appears. With Liverpool reeling having gone winless in three, now is the time for United to strike while the iron is hot.

Whether they can grab the opportunity is another question entirely. Slot has had a fortnight to tinker and will expect his Reds to get back to form after their recent wobbles.

Liverpool’s horrific defence of their Premier League title took another calamitous twist on Saturday as they lost 3-0 at home to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.

An already ignominious start to the season plumbed new depths as a painful display at Anfield resulted in a sixth league defeat and left them reeling in 11th in the table.

Supporters tore into various under-performing Liverpool players on a day when the defence once again capitulated, the midfield was over-ran and the attack struggled to produce any meaningful shots on goal.

Ibrahima Konate was slaughtered by Liverpool fans, but he was not the only one to be on the receiving end of some online anger.

It was a second straight 3-0 Premier League defeat and the script was wearily familiar for regular observers of the team.

It is now three wins in the last 11 games in all competitions and a campaign that promised so much is now in a tailspin.

Towards the end of last month, Jesus made his return to training, and the striker is now continuing to ramp up his return to action.

New footage has now emerged from London Colney, and it’s left the Gunners’ supporters all noticing the same thing about the 28-year-old.

Arsenal fans think Gabriel Jesus is starting to look ready for action

Arsenal fans believe that Gabriel Jesus is beginning to look ready to make his long-awaited return to action.

The striker was looking incredibly sharp in front of goal during Tuesday’s training session, with several impressive finishes.

However, Mikel Arteta will need to be cautious with bringing the Brazilian back into the fold, given the Brazilian international’s poor injury record.

Antoine Semenyo’s sparkling form for Bournemouth has helped propel them to second in the table and some people are even calling him the best player in the league! Jamie Redknapp headed to the club’s South Coast base to see him….

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this month, Semenyo said he is not oblivious to the speculation around his future, but revealed he was glad he remained with Bournemouth in the summer.

Ahead of the Cherries’ defeat at Manchester City, the winger spoke to Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp, and was quizzed about his future.
