Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes didn’t travel to Spain and instead watched his side’s Champions League quarter-final win against Real Madrid at home

 

Gabriel Magalhaes was spotted wearing a knee brace while watching Arsenal’s thumping Champions League win over Real Madrid.

 

 

The 27-year-old didn’t travel to the Santiago Bernabeu and instead, viewed from the comfort of his own sofa at home. He was surrounded by his family and friends as the Gunners beat Real Madrid 2-1 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate to seal their place in the semi-final.

 

 

But while eyes were on Arsenal’s success on the pitch, some supporters noticed that Gabriel was wearing a knee brace – two weeks on after suffering a hamstring injury.

 

Luiz Henrique Severo posted several videos from Gabriel’s house and it appeared to show his right knee in a brace and supported with his leg lifted by a cushion.

 

The Brazilian sustained the issue during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Tuesday, April 1 and was forced to undergo surgery to fix the issue. Gabriel’s wife posted a photo on social media last weekend after Gabriel went under the knife, with the defender in a hospital gown and looking positive.

 

Now back at home, Gabriel is recovering from the hamstring surgery but Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta fears that the former Lille defender could miss the start of next season.

 

Arteta stated: “It’s been a season where we’ve had to adapt constantly, We’ve gone through a lot of things. We’ve lost probably our best defender [Gabriel] for four months but Jakub [Kiwior] comes in and delivers the performances that he’s been delivering.”
