Mikel Arteta provided a worrying injury update on Ben White, Gabriel Magalhães, and Jurrien Timber following Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Tuesday night.

White, who had returned to action after knee surgery, was not involved at all. Arteta explained, “He had a little niggle two days ago. Yesterday we tried, he wasn’t feeling right, so we decided not to put him in the squad today.”

The injury troubles continued during the match, with Gabriel forced off in the 16th minute. Arteta said, “Gabi felt something in his hamstring, we don’t know how big that is.” The Brazilian had pulled up mid-sprint, and early signs point towards a hamstring strain, likely ruling him out of both legs of the Champions League quarter-final.

Jurrien Timber made it to the 77th minute before being replaced. “Jurrien was the knee. He managed to continue and at some point he couldn’t,” Arteta said. “They are two players in this team that never want to come off.”

Arsenal will assess both players further on Wednesday, with Arteta adding, “We’ll be assessing them tomorrow and understand better how we are with those two.”

Riccardo Calafiori experienced a bad fall during Italy’s international against Germany on March 20th. The player left the field of play unassisted, but limped from the stadium, telling reporters he didn’t know yet whether his injury was serious.

“He picked up an injury again with the national team,” Mikel said on 31 March. “It’s really unfortunate the way it happened. It could have been much worse so hopefully it’s going to be a matter of weeks, but we’ll have to see how that injury evolves.”

Lucas Nygaard

Lucas Nygaard has suffered another setback, breaking his finger in training while preparing to represent Denmark at an Under-19 tournament in Hungary. He is expected to miss six-to-seven weeks. It is the second broken bone he has suffered since signing for Arsenal in the summer.

Takehiro Tomiyasu suffered yet another setback during the October international break, with reports suggesting it was a knee injury.

Now, Arsenal and Tomiyasu have confirmed that he has undergone a second operation on his knee, with the defender struggling to recover from persistent issues following his March 2023 surgery.

Tomiyasu has played just six minutes this season, suffering another setback immediately after his brief comeback against Southampton.

He will not return until the end of 2025 at the earliest.
