LATEST UPDATES LIVE >Liverpool agreed £120m swap deal involving out-of-favour England star before Newcastle

Liverpool and Newcastle could somehow find themselves entangled in a £120million transfer tug-of-war for a second straight summer.

talkSPORT understands Elliott is keen on a move away from Anfield this summer, with RB Leipzig also keeping tabs on him.
Liverpool will demand a fee of more than £40m to sell the playmaker, which is a similar figure to what they valued his England teammate, Joe Gomez, this time last year.
The latter was all set to complete a £45m switch to Newcastle in June 2024, with Anthony Gordon moving the other way.
Man United told to avoid signing 16-goal Premier League striker as Hojlund replacement
“My biggest concern was that we’d lose Alex (Isak) or Anthony (Gordon) because Liverpool chased him and both are extraordinary players. Negotiating is tough because you have to pretend it means nothing to you when it means everything.”
Having been born in Liverpool, Gordon spent time in the club’s academy before leaving for Everton aged 11 in 2012.
Newcastle are among the clubs interested in Elliott
The winger, who later moved to Newcastle in January 2023, remains a boyhood Reds fan and is good mates with current Anfield star Curtis Jones, having come through the club’s Kirkby academy together.
However, Newcastle pulled the plug on Gordon’s potential return to Merseyside after a series of last-minute sales elsewhere.
Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35m and Brighton’s £33m capture of Yankuba Minteh meant the Toon were able to raise the revenue needed to avoid cashing in on their key stars.
Gordon went on to sign a new deal at St James’ Park in October, but renewed interest from Liverpool emerged at the start of June.
talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook shared his belief that a move for the Three Lions ace could materialise this summer.
He explained: “They are massive admirers of Alexander Isak, no question about that, but it would take a huge offer to prise him away from Newcastle.

“The Gordon one is interesting. It’s one I’ve always kept in my back pocket, as one that could be revisited, because he was very close to joining Liverpool this time last year, really close.
“To the extent where the deal was down to the final stages, and I think Newcastle just decided, we actually can’t part company with this guy.
“So it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s still an itch there on Liverpool’s part that needs to be scratched.
“But I think it would take a big offer, and maybe they’re going to have to get players off the payroll before they would look at that.”
Since then, Liverpool have sold Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Jarell Quansah, with Elliott now up for sale as well.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are yet to make a major signing and recently saw their pursuit of Joao Pedro get hijacked by Chelsea.
