LATEST UPDATES: Liverpool Hold Surprise Talks to Sign £300,000-a-Week Forward Alongside Wirtz

Liverpool have “made contact” with Chelsea about Christopher Nkunku, who is set to leave the club this summer, according to Santi Aouna of FootMercato.
In Arne Slot’s first season of English football, the Dutchman has guided Liverpool to their second-ever Premier League title, winning the trophy with four games to spare in what has been a stellar campaign for the ex-Feyenoord manager. His achievement is made even more impressive when it is considered that his team was bolstered by just one summer signing, Federico Chiesa, who has scarcely played.
Liverpool will no doubt be hoping to better their already impressive return on silverware in the coming season and already have an eye on the summer transfer market. The Reds are close to agreeing a deal for Jeremie Frimpong, who would replace the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
It would also appear that Slot wants to bring in a creative central player to further bolster his ranks in midfield and attack.

Frenchman expected to depart Chelsea
As per Santi Aouna, Liverpool have contacted Chelsea about Christopher Nkunku, who is expected to depart the club in the coming transfer window. As he showed with RB Leipzig, Nkunku is a brilliant creative force at his best, comfortable playing as either a forward or attacking midfielder.

Since moving to Chelsea, however, Nkunku, who earns £300,000 per week as per Salary Sport, has looked like a shell of the player he once was. The Frenchman moved to Stamford Bridge whilst injured and seemingly, he has never found the consistency that made him such a desired asset before his move to the English capital, which perhaps makes Liverpool’s interest somewhat surprising.
The Reds clearly want to sign a number 10, with Liverpool having been linked to Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen. In Nkunku, Liverpool would most likely be signing a cheaper alternative to whatever Wirtz would cost, though they would be taking a gamble in hoping that Nkunku can find his form once again.
If he is signed for a reasonable fee and given consistent football, then Nkunku has the potential of being an exceptionally shrewd deal for the newly-crowned Premier League champions.
