Fichajes reports that Barcelona are keen to strengthen their defence and have set their sights on Virgil van Dijk, who could arrive as a free agent in the summer. The Dutch centre-back’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire, and with no renewal in sight, Barca see an opportunity to secure him without a transfer fee.

At 33, Van Dijk remains a top defender, and his experience would bolster a backline facing potential departures, including Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia. Even Ronald Araujo’s future is uncertain, as the club could consider a sale if a significant offer arrives.

Barcelona plan to offer Van Dijk a two-year deal, though his high wages could be an obstacle given the club’s financial constraints. Hansi Flick welcomes the idea, seeing him as a key addition alongside Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.

As the season progresses, Barca remain attentive to the situation, hoping to convince Van Dijk to join their project.
